Why does everyone hate the XB?

I have noticed a large amount of hate for the XB around here. I was wondering where it is coming from. I actually like the XB for the most part. My only real compalint with the car is the bar stool-esque seating position. It feels like the seats are two feet off the floor. Now I understand why they are that high, so your legs take up vertical space instead of horizontal which would require a longer vehicle. Other than the seating I think the car is great. I have heard several people compalin about the styling or lack of. The Scion is an affordable, compact, commuter car. It isn't trying to look like something that it isn't. I am not a fan of overstyled cars, I like form to follow function. Not every vehicle needs to be an artistic vision on wheels. Several of the people I know with Scions have other cars. Usually something fast and or expensive. They bought the Scion to commute in. It can hold four people and adecent amount of cargo.

So go ahead, tell me why it's wrong to like something for not trying to be more than it is.

I guess just the styling of it makes people hate it. It is a very practical car indeed.

It looks like a toaster on wheels.  Add two slits in the roof and there you ***

And who invited them to truck shows?  See it just doesn't quite work out like that.

I dont like its boxy-ness.
You know its much cheaper to manufacture a box frame than to morph it?
Part of the reason why those things are so cheap.

There is, indeed, nothing wrong with the xB.  It is reliable, practical, and surprisingly comfortable.  Even the little engine performed better than expected.  But, as to the styling, it's definately polarizing to say the least.  I can see where both sides are coming from but for me the problem with Scion, in general, lies in their exhausting, transparent, and annoying bid to attract the younger crowd.  I think Toyota's trying a little too hard, especially with the xB.  For if you create a boxy SUV/Wagon/whatever it is, aesthetically I think it should be a little more rugged-looking.  Check out those wimpy wheels for example!!!  Completely disproportionate from the rest of the body.  To me the xB is a cross between a smaller H1 and an xA.  And that is just an ugly picture to me.  It's a good buy, but some are just too distracted by how, arguably, unprofessional it looks.

I don't think Scion was really going for the SUV image with the xb. It is an efficient people hauler. Bigger wheels take more power to turn, tires are more expensive to replace, and they require bigger wheel wells which take up passenger and trunk space. It is the definition of utilitarian.

i love scions.  its a great thing in the auto industry, toyota is loving life right now.  the problem is, even though something is a hit in the rest of the world, its bound to be rejected by v8 loving, big car, wasteful americans.  theyre amazingly practical, comfortable, affordable, good gas mileage, and customizable (for those who want it).  for 12 grand, you just cant lose.  i like the stying of all scions, but if you want that other kind of styling, go buy a bmw so you can feel good about your self image, then you wont have to worry about what other people think of you.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Toyota, which I once thought was taking a major risk by establishing the Scion brand in America.  In my past experiences, anything in contact with the Toyota name was at its very essence reliable, practical, and comfortable.  However, as automotivedp puts it,  "but if you want that other kind of styling, go buy a bmw so you can feel good about your self image, then you wont have to worry about what other people think of you."  I think that this is a very big selling point.  The xB looks like nothing on the road, sure, but some may simply be too embarrassed by its look.  A BMW is a BMW.  I would even go so far as to contend that if the xB was under the BMW marque then perhaps it would be more universally praised.

I must say that the xB is pretty roomy inside...
Yes, you are sitting completely vertical.
Coming from a person that is 6 foot 8, this car can fit practically anyone.  I can even drive my girls Xa, just a bit of a problem with the pedals being too close...but what do you expect.
I would never buy either of them because my giant *** would look absolutely retarded.
