Contrary to what the tire repair person on the sites opinion, according to Michelin, PAX is dead. Honda may say its an option, but the Michelin info contradicts this. It appears there will be a settlement shortly so if you need a flat fixed, get a plug. It's what I did. Cost $10.00 and the worst that can happen is the air leaks, then I go on run flat. Screw the pax thieves and the idiot trying to sell his pax repair services. Andrew

Hello, Why would you ever buy another Michelin product after what they did to you? The pax was supposed to be a normal tire- like 40-50k miles, was it? Repair was supposed to be $35-45 to fix a flat, and 15% more for a new tire. I just can not understand the number of idiots who replace and then but a michelin tire as the replacement tire. Read the tire rack reviews- there are other more cost effective- BETTER -tires available.

Here is a customer review from tire rack of these tires on a minivan, but he does indicate he is an idiot who probably made hie tire wear out:
I bought these tires with the intention of them lasting the remaining life of our owning our vehicle (50k miles left). When new i was pleased with their performance especially in rain and slushy snow. However, after 23000 miles on a 90,000 tire we have found that the wear is very excessive. My wife and I are OCD when comes to tire pressure. These tires are max at 44 PSI and even when we go to the max these tires still have a tremendous sidewall bulge thus the the edges have worn through. I'm not favorable to any given tire manufacturer but i certainly would not have these tires in mind as we prep for putting on new tires. Did i mention that we have 60k miles on our 2001 van and have gone through 2 sets of michelin? Let's face it, it's a minivan and we drive it like a minivan..."mini speed" and "man can you please drive faster"

Wish I had seen this Forum couple of years ago. I have '05 Ody Touring (~50k)that has gone through several replacements. The local Costco Automotive center, and local tire shop will not repair this tire. I had to get it replaced at the Honda dealer. The most painful experience was having to replace two tires in a week. The second one had a nail on it.
After reading the NY Times news article, and reading peoples experiences on this forum, I am enraged. Michelin and Honda have behaved irresponsibly, and they have to be made accountable.
I am considering replacing the PAX tires with something normal, and joining the class action.

Hi: We bought an 05 Touring from the US and imported it into Canada last Christmas -was much cheaper. Didn't realize pax headache (no pax on Canadian Odysseys). I need new tires and don't want new pax because they are expensive/hassle and can't be fixed without driving over to states.
What I'd like to do is order a complete replacement set of wheels/tires/sensors to my P.O. box in Buffalo and go to a local tire guy to have them installed. Can anyone recommend a retailer and or package?
Thanks!

Just bought a used 2005 touring and after reading the forum, it made me realized that I made a wrong purchasing decision. Does anyone know of a good place to go to have the tires de-pax out here in the MD/VA/DC area?

I spent a good bit of time researching this earlier this year before I made the change... Go to tirerack.com. Put in Odyssey EX model for the wheel selector. EX is the same bolt pattern as the Touring model. Pick your wheel, pick your tire, voila...you are done. You can make this complete changeout, installed, for as little as $1000 with a 16" package.
I did my '05 Odyssey Touring earlier this year. Interestingly enough, the helpful folks at Tire Rack would not sell me wheels and tires for a "Touring Model"....so don't ask. (I'm sure it's about the lawsuit) Just do it online. I chose 16" wheels because the Yokohama Avid TRZ is a fantastic all-season tire, (NOT MICHELIN) and only matches up on the 16" size. Ordered the Sport Edition F10, took them to Mr. Tire, and had the Yokohamas installed. Mr Tire stocks these tires, btw. No problems, WAY cheaper than the PAX, speedo is the same, and ride/handling is much better all around.
As far as the TPMS goes, you can either buy new ones - part #06421-s3v-a04 (from lots of places on-line, ebay, etc...), or you can take out the existing ones. I couldn't find anyone to take them out nicely (need special equipment to remove the tires, and they'll charge you more than new sensors cost). So, the cheapest way is to just cut into the sidewall with a razor knife and remove them. The tires are worthless anyway... It's very easy, the units are screwed in at the valve stem. If you can't get your installer to do this, you can do it after the fact and have them installed later. Or, spend the extra hundred bucks and get new ones installed at the same time. Good luck, you won't regret it!

Does anyone know what the dealer cost is on Michelin PAX tires? My tires are bald at 20k miles with regular rotation. There is a class action lawsuit against Honda and Michelin for not informing the customers they would have to pay $1200 or more for new tires every 20-30k miles. And, if you get a flat, you may have to wait a week for the dealer to order a new tire. If you are taveling, you are likely out of luck as very few dealers have the equipment to install the tires and very few stock them.

We would, also, like to enter with a class action suit. If you know a contact, let me know. We have the 2005 Odyssey touring van. We had to replace the first tires that came on the van around 42,000. Now here we are around 25, 000 and we were told the tires needed changed again. After complaining to our local Honda dealer where we bought the van, they did split the cost with us. I just called Michelin and these tires and they said sorry but what your dealer did is more than what we would have done. I told them that I have never bought any product that the company didn't stand behind their product. They said sorry but they couldn't help us....I thought this company was better than that...please let us know if you find out anything. We were told by one of the service men at the dealership that there was a tire company that could change all the things needed changed to put regular tires on it...if someone has done this, let us know that also.....thanks..
Pat

The problem with the class action settlement is that it does not solve the problem for owners of these vehicles. I have a 2007 Quest and my tires are worn out at 18,000 miles. The only real remedy is to replace the PAX system with non-PAX tires. I have contacted Nissan requesting this and they have said no deal. I live in Chicago and the closest PAX tire service facility is 20 miles from here. I had a nail in one at 5000 miles and it took 5 days to get the tire fixed. This is right after I purchase this vehicle new. Imagine you are out west on a family trip 5 years from now. You get a flat. Michelin has said they are terminating the PAX system. Do you imagine you will be able to get a replacement PAX tire? No. Normally you could go anywhere and get your tire fixed or a new tire put on. With PAX it will be simply impossible. And you cannot put anything but a PAX tire on the wheel. The car was defective when sold and the class-action settlement does nothing for affected owners, merely enriches the attorneys.

I have had a very similiar experience.
I cart around 2 small children day in and out and I do not have the money to replace tires for a Rolls Royce or even performance tires on a family minivan.
What were Honda America and Michelin thinking about a family car? Obviously they didn't think.
What family could reasonably afford to replace these tires?!!! I am heart broken.
My salesman didn't warn me in 2006! Even today, the dealership says there is nothing they can do. The dealerships are mum about the C A lawsuit!
Especially in today's economy what middle class family can afford to ride safely in this vehicle?
What I see happening is families are not being able to afford to replace the tires right away and are driving with them anyway! To daycare, to middle school, to PTA, they drive! The C. A. isn't going to help those families after a blow-out occurs!

Honda (tried several dealers) said the replacement tire is $550 per tire ... and they have the machine to do it at this dealer. Not sure who is correct here but Honda is running a scam if I ever heard of one
