I replaced all 4 Michelin Pax tires two days ago. After complaining to Honda and Michelin I was able to replace all tires for $480.00   I was not happy, but I guess compared to others, this price was fair. I hope the class action lawsuit fixes the problem!

$480?!  How did you manage that?!  We're still trying to get somewhere with Honda/Michelin.  Honda Corporate sent us to our local dealership.  Our local dealership is 'working up a deal' to compete with the quote we got from Discount Tire (@$700 for another set of PAX with a 35% discount provided by Michelin).  I don't want PAX again, but then again, we don't have $1200 laying around to put new wheels on it.  Apparently Honda said they can't put the EX wheels on the Touring b/c the suspension is beefed up for the heavier PAX tire.  Uh...so how exactly does a lighter wheel (One that fits another model of the SAME vehicle) really affect that?  Anyway, 2 road trips in our '98 explorer stunk.  We aren't taking the van out of the area until we have new tires.

What a pain in the rear!  Wonder what is going on with the lawsuit....?

I strongly encourage each of you to register your complaints with http://www.autosafety.org and http://www.nhtsa.gov , even if you have already taken care of the problem.  I actually looked up the settlement for the Toyota run-flat issue and it looks like they got refunds for replacement of their run-flat tires or regular wheels (if they swaped out).

We are going to go ahead and do our tires with the 35% discount...so a new set of PAX wheels will cost us about $700.  Why are we going with PAX again??  Well, we don't have the $1200 to replace with different wheels/tires.  There's also not a lot of selection if we did.  We hope we aren't in the same situation a year from now, but maybe by then they have fixed this issue.  If we are back in this boat next year, we'll either sell the van or replace the wheels.

And the status of the lawsuit:  Status of Pending Case: Defendants have filed a Motion to Dismiss Plaintiffs' Complaint. Plaintiffs' response is due on June 6, 2007 and a hearing on Defendants' Motion to Dismiss will be held on July 9, 2007.

I just bought an 06 Touring model with 9600 miles and have not had a problem with the Pax tires....yet! I am wondering though, what the difference is from the US and Canadian Touring models.....as far as I can tell the suspension difference of the Touring from the other Odyssey's is a 1mm difference in the stabilizer bar.....Since the Canadian version of the touring model uses the tire/wheel configuration of the EX is their suspension different from the US version? I have not seen Honda address this or anyone else ask....

Odyssey Touring owners need to unite.  You are Honda's most valuable customers.  You bought the most expensive option loaded van on the market. Honda has no appreciation for your patronage.  You are their most valuable asset and by doing nothing on this PAX issue they are telling you THEY DON'T CARE about you.  They don't care if you go elsewhere next time.

You should be telling everyone you can about this issue and how poorly you have been treated by Honda.  You should then vote with your wallet the next time you are purchasing a vehicle

It's that time for me to replace my PAX System Tires from Michelin on my Nissan Quest. My dealer gave me a discount of $2560.00 to replace my tires OR I can replace the PAX system with regular Nissan tires and rims for $2100.00. What a deal.... Right. It will cost me over $400.00 to have the sensors replaced and flashed.

No one in my community will touch this tires. I can't even trade the vehicle until I replace the tires.

Here's the class action lawsuit link regarding the Pax Run Flats.

http://www.autosafety.org/article.php?scid=185&did=1304

Filed in US District Court on 7-31-07.

I've emailed the file to our local Honda deaership and they are trying to be proactive in helping us with a solution.

ll of the dealers are a bunch of liars. They all state that they never heard of a problem with the PAX tires.
my Dealer, Apple Honda of Long Island ,NY wanted $400.00 each tire and $100.00 to balance. plus tax $2200.00.
I went on-line and have a price of $1600.00 for a complete set of balanced, mounted tires 18" delivered to my house, and a set of custom rims. I was told that it was no problem to mount these on my Odyseey.
We all should be in a class action

Just put 4 new ones on my 05 odyssey, $1080.00 out the door.  Honda Corona, CA. 36k on the car. everytime i have the tires rotated the pressure is not set correctly by the dealer, I always have to point it out and have them go back and re set.  door decal says 33 front, 35 psi back.  when  I got the new tires on Friday, the pressure was all over the place so I had the service advisor take it back to reset.  He brings it to me 38 psi all four tires. when I point out to him the recommeded pressure decal he said "oh, we recommmend 38 psi" , I think he was tired of being embarassed.  I just deflated to the proper psi when I left the dealership.

this is the second message about my PAX system . I spoke to Honda > The National rep. He spoke to the Hopnda Dealer on Long Island. I had my vehicle checked out last tgursday, 9/3/07. They stated that since I put new brakes on the vehicle  , I have a constant out of balance, it was my foult and the brakes are the couse of the balance. What a lot of CRAP. Tires cause the ouit of balance , not brakes. They are new Honda disks and ceramic pads. They refused to listine to me that I had prior unbalance to the vehicle, and that I had it rebalanced at Sams Club. It lasted about one month. I noticed that my tires are also shaking at 65 to 70 mph. They are hiding the truth and are a bunch of liars, to protect their ass.

PAX REPLACEMENT. I have a 2005 Touring and after spending many hours researching available replacements, I finally found a way. I used 18" tires and wheels and the vehicle is more responsive in steering, smoother riding, can handle higher speeds and cary same load. I'll have some data organized in a few days and can email it on request. (ermodude@aol.com) The difference of the diameter of the wheel and the offset is negligible.
The cost is obviously cheaper and the wheels look great.

We have about 18k miles on our 2006 Quest with the PAX system and we were just told that we needed to replace the (already worn out) front tires at a cost of $900 EACH.

Where do I sign up for the class action lawsuit again?

I have a 2006 Nissan Quest with 16,700 miles.  We got a nail in one tire which kicked off the same problems everyone is experiencing.

In summary, if you haven't been catching up, here are the issues:

- The tires don't last.  It seems that they are actually going bald around $15,000.  You MUST rotate these things about every 4,000 miles if you hope to get close to 25,000 miles out of them....

- You have no spare tire.  This was often not disclosed at purchase.

- Only certain dealers stock replacement assemblies (wheel and tire) or replacement tire only.  I've been without car for 9 days trying to find help.

- Only dealers who have purchased a special machine, very few have!, can separate the tire from wheel so you can't just take this anywhere.

- The cost of installing the tire is about $80 per tire.  With normal tires,  this would be about $10 per tire.

- Nissan CAN only order a replacement rim and tire assembly.  They will take your old wheel assembly off and replace it with a new one. They don't charge you for the rim because by returning the assembly back to Nissan, they will get a credit for the rim part.  Two problems with this approach - 1. they charge about $350 for the tire which is about $150 more than people who actually have the machine and stock the tire (Discount Tire charges $200).  2. If your rim has even one scratch on it, the dealer can't send it back to Nissan for credit because it's cosmetically damaged so if this is the case, the Dealer will have to charge you for the entire assembly, about $1,000.  Yep, mine had a MINOR scratch!

- If you decide to ditch these things because of all the problems, you have to buy new rims, new tires, AND new Pressure Sensors.  You're looking at thousands of dollars AND you might be voiding the ENTIRE car warranty depending on how you read the Nissan Warranty.

With all of that in mind, if you have worn out tires, Michelin must realize that they have a mess on their hands because the PAX hotline is prepared to deal with you.

First, call the PAX hotline and tell them that you can't believe you have bald tires at whatever mileage. You're outraged, let them know it!  They'll open a claim and tell you to go to an authorized repair place.

Go to an authorized repair place.  I went to Discount Tire - they have the machine and the tires in stock.  Have them inspect the tires and call the PAX Hotline.

Guaranteed they'll immediately hit you with "an offer."  My first offer was that they would replace the tire with the nail for free, and give me a 30% discount on the other three.  The dealer plugged this into his system and it was still almost $800!!!!!  I had to pay 70% of the tire cost, PLUS all the labor - these tires take an experienced dealer anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes PER TIRE to replace.  A standard tire takes about 10 minutes.

I got on the phone, and instead of yelling, I begged them to help more.  Cry poverty!  Then they offered me 50% off each of the three tires and they would pay the labor.  Now the bill was down to about $450.

I thanked the little P&*^k profusely but told him that was still beyond my means.  The final offer was 70% off the three tires and all labor paid my by Michelin.  My final bill for four new tires was $250.

DON'T GIVE UP - KEEP PRESSING THEM!!!!

NOW - I want these tires off of my car and I want Nissan to replace my tires, rims, sensors AND provide me with the spare tire and jack they never gave me.  YOU SHOULD TOO!!!!!

I have opened a customer care complaint with Nissan AND I contacted the lawyer who is handling the class action lawsuit against Honda and Michelin.  They are creating a case against Nissan and we need you to join in!!!

So, join in and let's get this fixed!  I don't know about you but I can't afford to go through this every time 15,000 miles rolls around.  I want these things off my car!

The lawyer can be reached at Jim Miller jmiller@sfmslaw.com
Nissan can be reached at 800-NISSAN1
Michelin can be reached at 877-PAX-TIRE

Wow, it's good to know that we are not the only ones experiencing this insane problem.  I have a Nissan Quest as well, and have ALL the problems with the PAX system as well.  I have replaced 2 tires in the last 9 months.  One was flat.....for no specific reason, and the second was a surprise call from the mechanic that said I had a hole in the tire.  Mind you there was nothing that told me that my tire "had a problem".  So I reaplaced that one.....700 and change each time.  Now I SUDDENLY have a POP, instant flat tire the other day, and already had an appointment to bring the Quest in for routine stuff.  They actually called me and said I need ALL 4 new tires....OVER $3000.....NO WAY, I said.  I asked why, and they said wear.....well, I new I would need one new one due to the flat, but I have been driving for 30 years, and I have NEVER had this many "blowouts" in one year EVER., I think I had 1 flat tire in all my years....So he told me he would call me back and check on some things.  I have no idea what is going on.....THESE TIRE ARE HORRIBLE AND NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH SOMETHING ELSE.

I have this same problem yesterday Oct-10-07. My car is an Acura RL 2007 have 3000 miles on it and with PAX tires . One of my rear tire just blown for no reason at all, I did not hit any thing and 100 miles away from home. luckily, I able to located a Discount Tire store in the area ( they are the only one in 50 miles area that able to do it) and take my car there. The technician took out the tire, put some air into it to check what the problem is, he found there is a 2 inches crack on the tire, so we have to replace the tire. I then waited 4 hours and paid $380 for them to replace . After the technician has done putting the new tire in to my car, he then show me my blown-tire, there is another problem with the tire, he said after the tire is flatted, the Rim is about to going through the tire because there is no gel inside the tire, they supposed to have gel inside these PAX tires . He would  want me to check other 3 tires and not recommend me to drive before to check those tires. He would check it but it is too late and he has to close his shop. I was really scare when driving home. This is really terrible tire, how can you drive 50mph after these tires are flatted? i really get a lot of vibration when driving 20mph, and the rep. from Michelin  told me that i can drive 100 miles more. Luckily i didnot take her advice.
