2005 Touring 14,800 miles Front tires are BALD. Called local dealers (Los Angeles), none in stock. Called Michelin who recomended four local independants. Only one had the tires in stock (295 each!) and all four were pissed off because they bought the machine, payed to get trained and can't get tires.
Legal action sounds good to me too. Where do I sign up?

On Thursday I went to Honda Santa Ana. They charged me $700 for two tires which included $95/tire mounting and balancing. Unbelievable.
Worse yet, after charging me $79 to align the front end, the steering wheel wobbles at speeds above 60 MPH.
I have informed a class action law firm in the San Francisco area about this issue

I have an '05 Odyssey Touring I have made multiple calls to Honda customer service and to Michelin. Neither side will take any resonsibility for this deal. They act like I am the first person to make a complaint, which obviously I am not. I have two tires that were shot at 25,000 miles and the other two at 31,000 miles. Nobody has offered a solution or an upgraded tire option. Since I have no spare tire, I don't have a choice but to replace the set with another inferior Pax set for about $800 at the dealer.
The joke is that Michelin has published a list of tire retailers (non-Honda dealers) who are set up to deal with Pax system and none within 200 miles of me have ever changed a set nor are they willing to touch them.
How Honda got itself into this mess is beyond me and why they don't step up with a solution is disappointing.
I've owned 4 other Hondas and have averaged over 140,000 miles on each. Assuming I do the same I will have to spend an additional $2500 on tires over the life of the vehicle. What a bunch of BS.

I purchased a 2005 Odyssey Touring as well. My story is the same as all others. My husband and I have replaced 5 tires and the van has been in the shop for a total of 18 days since Feb.2005 waiting on tires. We have complained of the van pulling to the right on numerous occasions. Another complaint is the severe vibrating of the steering wheel at speeds over 50 miles/hr. Anybody else with these additional complaints? I would love to know very soon. My husband and I are currently in the process of the lemon law act. I will never recomend this vehicle to anybody.

You have the option of replacing your PAX tires with custom wheels and tires. That seems to be what a lot of Touring owners are doing according to tire shops in my area.
I just bought a used 05 Touring w/20K miles and the tires are worn. It costs slightly more to replace the rims and tires w/Michelins but they'd last much longer and would be cheaper to replace when worn.
I haven't decided on replacing the wheels and tires or go with the original PAX tires but am leaning toward the former.

I also have a 2005 Touring. It drove GREAT until 27K miles when I had to replace the tire/wheel combos. Since then it has had vibration issues at highway speeds. It has been back in to Penske Honda four times since then to try and get this issue resolved, and one of those times they kept it for a full week while they experimented. I believe they want to solve the problem, but they can't figure out how to properly balance these PAX tire/wheel combos.
The use of the PAX tires is picking up, apparently. In addition to the Odyssey Touring, PAX tires are also available on Acura RLs, Nissan Quests, and even the Rolls Royce Phantom and the Bugatti Veron. I have to believe that these can indeed be balanced properly so as not to vibrate at highway speeds. I know mine was rock-solid at speeds up to and exceeding 90 mph before the tires were replaced with new ones, so I know it can be done.
Has anyone else had the vibration issue with replacement PAX tires and if so, were you ever able to get it satisfactorily resolved? If so, I would appreciate knowing what was done to fix the issue.
Thanks.

I'm curious as to why you had to replace tires and wheels? That had to be expensive especially considering the cost to replace just the tires alone is about $1,200.
I'm about to replace the tires at a certifed installer and was able to get Michelin to offer the tires at a reduced cost that made the replacement cost about the same as conventional tires. However, I'm still concerned the treadwear will be lousy and in a couple years will have the same problem. These tires have only 21,000 miles on them.

Email me what the dealership will tell you about the tire issue. Today I ran around trying to find a dealership that has a pax tire is stock without results. I picked up a nail in one of my tires and now I have to hassle putting air in it every few hours. A class action would suit me fine, or an approved alternative to change to another tire. My email is ermodude@aol.com.

I live in New Jersey and recently purchased a used 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring model with 29K miles. I did a quick inspection of the tires before purchasing and they looked OK. However after my first service at Hudson Honda, it looks like two tires will need to be replaced soon. I then began to figure out the absolute horror that all others have posted about cost of these Michelin PAX tires. Michelin posts on their PAX website that the PAX tires and service will cost about 15% more than standard tires, which is acceptible (i.e., standard Michelin Energy LX4 cost $122 on Tirerack website). Not sure where they did their survey, but that is way off! The lowest I found after checking with all the Honda Dealers in my area was $200 for each tire and $95 per tire for installation labor (supposedly takes one hour to change each tire). I think that Michelin does not have the infrastructure of PAX equipment out in the market yet and the dealers that do have it are way over charging customers to recoop the cost of the equipment and because there is no competition. And the fact that we are getting only about 30-35K out of these tires compared to 50-60K miles on regular tires is rediculous. Michelin also claims that these tires are more "environmently friendly" since they have less rolling resistance than standard tires which results in better gas mileage. However when you factor in the fact that you are getting about half the miles out of these tires compared to standard tires, it makes the enviromently friendly claim completely bogus. I'm willing to join a class action against Michelin on these PAX tires.
Other than the tires, we love the 2005 Odyssey Touring. I have not had the vibration problems.

we have a 2005 honda odyssey with 25,000 miles and we need two new tires at $552.00 each. at that price it will cost $10,000 over the life of the car just for tires. I'm not at all happy with the tires. we do love the car but not the tires. I'd like to put new wheels and tires on the car if anyone has done that I'd like to hear from you. I to would be willing to join a class action against Michelin and or Honda for selling these bad tires.

Theese tires can be changed out with after market wheels and tires, you have to buy the sensers from michlin as they are maid into the valve stem.I have been told that this wouldn't work, but I see no reason why the sensers in new wheels would not work.I called michlin and the sensers are fifty dollars a piece plus shipping.I would like to hear from someone else who has tried this tks.

I agree I agree I agree. I live in upstate New York, and at 25,000 miles I have no tread left. These tires have absolutely no traction in snowy conditions, much to the "surprise" of the Honda regional parts manager I spoke with today. Ha ha. Try getting snow tires for these PAX things!!! Impossible. It will cost almost $2,000 through the dealer to get PAX snow tires mounted on another set of rims. I second the amazement that Honda continues to sell this tire system, as they seem unable (or unwilling) to follow through with service issues. If anyone knows of any sort of class action lawsuits, please contact me Dllipscomb@aol.com. I'll be a willing participant.
