Hi there. I have a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus with the 4 cyl engine. About 7000 miles ago the engine light came on. Code was intermittent loss of CMP or CKP (crank and cam sensor position. I replaced both sensors and the problem still exists....hesitates and misses when you step on the gas but only when you first start out when warm problem seems to go away... Also the car is extremely hard on fuel.... Now when driving the car for awhile and its at operating temp. you go to a stop light the car quits. Try to restart and it won't start at all.....no engine warning lights.... nothing. Wait 20 mins or more for car to cool and it starts up. I have heard these cars have problems with the PCM's??? And its darn expensive to replace because the computer has to be programmed by Chrysler and each car has its own exclusive computer??? I am hoping this isn't the problem can anyone shed light on this? Thanks in advance

Couple of things you need to have checked first check the wiring to the 2 sensors you replaced and have a pin retintion check done also. Secondly replace your auto shutdown relay. One more thing it could be is the fuel pump going out.

Thanks for the reply John....where is the auto shutdown relay located??  Can't see it being the fuel pump as I mentioned its hards on gas....therefore must be pumping ok??  The wires appear to be ok....the only thing I noticed however was the heat shield from the exaust above the crank sensor is rusted off....maybe the crank sensor is getting too hot??  I have asked mechanics this and they say it wouldn't hurt the sensor they are built to stand alot of heat

o2 wires have been a problem for me on 2.0 engines the exhaust gets them to hot usually when it happens it will blow the fuel pump fuse take advise from entries above unplug your engine wiring harness and your o2 sensors and check your wires one at a time with a test light or voltameter
