As the title says, I cannot get the key to turn on my 1996 Nissan Altima. Can I just spray in some lubricating oil?

Dumb question, but are you releasing the pressure on the lock with the steering wheel? If that's not the case, take the key to a locksmith, tell him the problem and have him make you a new key. As far as the oil I wouldn't do it. Use some powdered graphite in the lock.
