You have to buy a install harness that is made specifically for the model and year of your car. I went through this with my Beetle, and I still have to *** the dealership that it has been scanned before and it's fine everytime I take it in, even for an oil change. There is a "K-wire" that is in the stereo harness, I belive it is purple but don't quote me on that, that needs to be tied off. Take your car to a shop that has done VWs before and they should have no problem installing an afermarket head unit. I put a Blaupunkt in the Beetle, it sounds nice and matches the interior lighting. Good luck

I got mine from a local electronics store. Most of the big stores should have them in stock that will require you to connect it to the harness that comes with the new deck. I generally solder and shrink wrap. If you contact a place like crutchfield.com I have heard that they will sell you a premaid harness that will already have the connectors for your deck on one side and the VW connectors on the other. That is the easist way to do it, and it really is plug and play. I believe your factory stereo is double DIN, so if you can find the part number (try vwvortex.com)you can get a nice storage compartment from the dealer that will fill up the extra empty space.
