The other night driving down the highway the truck started losing power....lights dimmed, windows etc.....the truck got sluggish and we pulled over. Leaving the truck running took off the battery cable and it died. Replaced the cable and turned the key and it would not turn over and made clicking sound. Waited an hour and it started right up....drove 5 minutes and the same thing happened. We just got a new battery less then 6 months and I was told it wasnt the alternater. Can someone please help????? It is a 4.6 liter and the VIN is 1FTDX1764VNA41528.

First thing is you can not take the cable off when it is running the computer runs off of 12 volt battery power so when you pull the cable the computer has no power. Next what kind of battery did you get and where from? This might be your problem.

I don't subscribe to taking the battery cable off a vehicle while it is running, but if the alternator was good it wouldn't die by taking it off. I think your alternator is bad. Go someplace and have the battery and alternator checked. Make sure the terminals on the battery are clean and tight. If the terminals are corroded clean them with a tooth brush and baking soda and water. Make sure the alternator belt is tight enough to pull some serious amps. Auto Zone will check your battery and alternator for free. Check it out.

sounds like an alternator.  you also might want to check your battery cells and make sure they are filled with water.
