I recently bought a Commander and sold my old 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport, the guy who bought it called and said the transmission was bad and the mechanic told him when he dropped the pan it had metal shavings in it so they took the tranny apart and low and hehold everything was bad. He is telling me that it needs to be rebuilt.I know I can simply say too bad you bought it as is but I don't want to screw over someone if it is legit. So my question for anyone who is familiar with this transmission is:1. How dependable are these transmissions (I6, 4.0)?2. I was told that it was actually a Toyota transmission and that if the pan is dropped it ruins the seal. Is that true? If the mechanic didn't know what he was doing, did he just ruin the transmission?3. Also, I was told by the dealer that as long as there aren't major "chunks" it is normal wear and tear.4. Is it normal generally for transmission fluid to change color to brown?Any help is greatly appreciated.
