As an early graduation present, my dad got me a new '07 Camry. I think the car looks great, and I'm really excited about having a new automobile. Now, since I have a car that I care deeply about and will have for a while, I figured I'd upgrade the sound system first, since that's what I care about the most.
My problem is, since my dad paid wholly for the car, he's really uneasy about me changing anything in the car because he jumps the gun and instantly assumes I'm going to "booger it up" or make it look trashy. I sought one of my car-savvy friends for references, but I figured I'd ask some car buffs as well.
I'll tell you guys what I know so far from my friend, and then afterwards, if anyone knows of any ways I can help my dad learn about upgrading car audio or ease him into the concept, that'd be greatly appreciated.
Here goes:
As for brands, my friend said that Infinity speakers typically sound the best. He said go for those for a nice rich sound and no muddy highs. I think he said go for an Infinity head unit as well, but he works at Best Buy, and can "gift" a head unit to me for a discount. I would assume that I'd look for an Infinity amp and subs as well, if anyone has something to say about this, please do.
I know I'll need a capacitor if I'm going to have a lot of power being drawn from my battery by a large sound system. I know nothing about capacitor brands or anything, so info on that would be appreciated as well.
My friend said for setup of subs/amp in the back, I could take it to a local shop and have a professional do it for a price, which I see no problem with.
As for the head unit he said he could install that for me and teach me how to do my own in the future, but when I mentioned this to my dad he freaked out and pitched a fit about somebody else tinkering with a brand new car. I can understand why he'd be so concerned, but I think he may have been overreacting a tad.
In addendum, my friend recommended I do most of my shopping on the Crutchfield website or magazine, saying they're a respected source and give reviews and such for car products. And for location, I live in Atlanta, so if anyone knows of any great car audio places around this area I'd love to hear about it.

I think your friend has alot of knowledge about the systems in cars. The on;y thing I would change is The head unit, Infinity has great sound like your friend said but the head unit stinks I would personally go with a Alpine, but that's just me. Well I hope you can get everthing done right so nothing gets messed up good luck to you.

http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/index.php has some nice stuff if you're ever on a budget
Their discounts ended february 1st. However, they now offer 5 year warranty on their products instead of 3 years.
