On average, how long does an automatic transmission last before the cluthces, bands, or seals start to wear out? I have a 130,000 miles on my 1999 4.6 Mustang GT. It has an automatic transmission and both the front and rear seals are leaking. I have taken good care it, by changing the trans oil every 25,000 miles. My concern is getting the seals fixed just to have one of the cluthes or bands go out in another 20,000 miles.

Thanks
Bob

You are correct in your evalation of the life of transmission parts.  You have probably about reached the life of the transmission. Then again, you repair the seals and it may go another 20,000, 30,000 or more miles. Transmisions are finicky.  My brohter has an old Mercury Monarch with over 250,000 miles and the original transmission. Just chnaged the fluid regularly.  You never really know. Why not take it ot a good transmission shop for their input.  I said  a good shop if you know of one with a good reputation.
