I have an auxiliary cigarette lighter outlet in the console for the back seat and two auxiliary outlets in the storage compartment along with a lighter in the front seat.  All outlets work except the one in the center console.  Fuse location 33 works for the outlet in the front.  But, I plugged a DVD into a rear outlet and removed and replaced every fuse and the movie didn't miss a beat.  Maybe the fuse for the center outlet is in the same location as those for the rear outlets and, I'm reckoning there is an undocumented auxiliary fuse box somewhere.  Where?

I just did this nasty job. The fuse is not in the fuse block, but in a seperate fuse position near the relays. It's hard to see and even harder to reach. I had to remove two relays that were in the way just to get access. The relays are located behind the dashboard and can be reached through the opening above the fuse panel. Please note: There are two fuses in the relay area, both with retaining clips. I replaced the one in the light blue holder. The one in the red holder controls other things; not sure what because there is no documentation in the manual covering it. Pretty stupid on VWs part to put a fuse in such a location and not document it anywhere. Guess they figured it's good for a $120 service visit. Best of luck!

This was VERY helpful. I had the rear auxiliary fuse go in my 2003 W8 Passat and could not find a blown fuse anywhere. The two behind the relays sure are difficult to see. The rear aux fuse is the red one (yellow 20 amp fuse) It is a little easier to reach if you remove the front lower panel under the steering wheel. There are 4 screws holding it in place. I still had to remove a large relay to get adequate space...and I only have small hands! Thanks again for the help, the manual is pretty useless on the topic of fuses. Good luck if you have the same problem.

Where is the fuse for the front cigarette lighter on a 2002 VW Passat GLX AWD?

This was a huge help.  I have a 2003 Passat, the rear console lighter fuse is a red retaining clip.
