I'm in the same boat as everyone else seems to be in...it's sinking fast in a pool of antifreeze and oil. Mine didn't start using oil until they replaced Cat/Convertor?? I will join a Class Action.

We recently have been told that we need a new engine in our 2002 Altima.  Luckily we have 2 vehicles, but we are now making payments on a car that is not be driven because I refuse to get stuck on the side of the road with my small children because Nissan won't man up to their mistake.  We had a local radio personality on WBAP 820 contact all his connections including Nissan directly and the outcome is sorry, but it has to be our fault that the oil is burning up.  How is that possible?  Like the other 200+ posts on this site we have maintenanced the car regularly and asked about the strange noise.  I guess it is our fault that we trusted licensed mechanics that they knew what they were talking about or that Nissan would back a faulty product.  I would love to find a class action lawsuit to join but at this point there is no hope and we are just trying to save up for the new engine.

Same story here... I'm at 110,000 miles & she gets a full quart every 200 miles. It has gotten steadily worse since the 80-90k mark. Engine light on... Cat Converter clogged... o2 sensor bad... NO LEAKS ANYWHERE!!! Just burning up inside. No smoke out the pipes. I would be in on the class action suit.

I am the original owner of a 2002 Nissan Altima which has 86,000 miles. When the check engine light went on I took it to the dealer who informed me the engine needs replacing. I have had the car serviced on a regular basis. I would like to be included in any class action suit.

I have already e-mailed hectorp and westwellsite for info on how to post but I think I have it figured out. I would love to sue the pants of Nissan.
My 2002 Nissan Altima (manual) started eating oil like I eat cookies at 95,000 miles. Nissan had me drive the car then they would check it. Drive it again, then check it. This went on until I had 98,000 miles on it. I wasn't driving that car another mile. I had a 100,000 mile warranty on the car but they said the cat/converter was bad and that due to that, the motor went out. It came down to I swore I would pickett on the sidewalk in front of their dealership with a sign that said talk to me before you buy a Nissan. Nissan finally agreed to put in a rebuilt motor but I had to purchase a new cat/converter. That same cat/converter as it turns out was recalled but you only had one year to fullfill the recall and if your cat/converter went bad after that...to bad so sad. I was in the later group. I would love in on that suit if someone gets it going because there is something wrong with the 2002 year, model and make of this car.  Tracy rut@shasta.com

please include me in the suit. I have a 2002 nissan ser specv. I purchased the car used at 109,000. I also purchased a 3 year 30,000 mile warrenty. The check engine light came on and I brought it to the dealer. After a 105.00 dollar inspection my fears were relized. The pre-cat broke down and ruined my motor. The warrenty won't cover it because the exshaust is not covered. It would be 4500.00 for a new motor. I was informed that the recall on the car was already done at 40,000. The manifold was replaced with a updated one. That same part just ruined my car. I feel like driving it untell the oil is gone and the car starts on fire. Maybe then I can get this taking care of. Please help me. Bradkrueger@ymail.com

I have had only problems with my 2002 Nissan Altima since I purchased it brand new in 2002. I have more recently put in a new radiator and new catalytic converter. I am having the same problem as everyone else with the oil condumption. I was at 3000 miles and was going to bring it in that week for an oil change when my car was making a horrible noise in the front of my car. I checked the oil and I had none... just black sludge. I added oil and brought it in for an oil change and the noise was gone until now, only 1400 miles since. I have been checking my oil and it seems to be getting darker and the noise is just aweful. I am bringing it tomorrow for another oil change. My check engine light has been on 90% of the time that I have had the car whether it has been the seal from the gas cap or the converter. Well, the light is back on... I read other posts and am afraid my next step will be to get a new engine. I am not sure what to do, don't feel like buying a new car but need something reliable.

Please help and add me to the class action suit- my email address is sjane027@hotmail.com.

I will never buy another Nissan!!

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima which has 76,000 miles. Along with all the recalls, every time I take my car in for an oil change I have problems.  I've had (3) transmissions, head gaskets, catalytic converter, fuel injector, fuel tank and tie rods replaced.  The check engine light appears everytime the weather changes, I've taken the car in complaining that the car idles very fast when I'm at a stoplight.  The brakes sound like I'm scrapping metal so bad that I keep my windows up. My car has even stopped as I was driving down the street.

To top it off, my car is in the dealer as I type, the check engine light is on again, I was informed that the electronic control module sensor needs to be replaced. I can't believe that every 3 months I have major problems and I only use the car after work and on weekends.

I would like to be included in any class action suit.

I wish I had read this yesterday. I just bought my 19 year old daugther a 2002 altima yesterday and got it to the shop and my mechanic said I should have called him first and he would have warned me. He said the car already has a new engine in it with 63k miles so that is good, but after reading everyone's story, I am in for some other problems in the future.  Who ever replaced the engine did not have nissan put in the codes so the computer is not reading the engine(or something like that) I am going to see if I can get out of this car quick.

I would like to be included in this class action suit as well.

I own a 2002 Nissan  Altima 2.5 SL with about 86,500 miles on it. I maintained an excellent service record on this car and took good care of during the 2 short years it's been in my ownership.  I have taken long trips previously and NEVER had any issues with my vehicel up till this point.  In June of 09' around the 15th I started to have problems with my vehicle, I noticed  the car was having trouble accelerating.  I drive about an hour to work and that same day while driving home I noticed a distinct oil burning smell the  oil light came on and I began to hear a knocking noise in the engine.  upon getting the car home my husabnd called the dealership and made an apoinment for the next day. We drove the car in and after inspection were told that the car needed $7,500 in repairs!!! we were told the engine was shot completely useless and that it had no oil it... I was also told the strut were goign out and needed to be replaced. which would exsplain the amount of tire wear I had over the last few years.   I found that to be weird as I was never told about a leak and had been on time with my oil changes(even though the service department was horrible in making peopel wait in excess of an hour) I wasnt even toold about a tire problem until my last serviceing and even then they  made no mention of a strut problem either.  I have gone to countless websites and found  llterally thousands of owners like me who have suffered this problem. WHY!!!!?? hasnt Nissan stepped up tp the plate and made good on this? If there is anyone who knows about a class action suit PLEASE email me and let me know.  Nissan needs to take action on this as it is an ethical and safety issue as well.  I didnt feel comfortable taking my car anywhere but the dealer, and now I trust them as far as I can throw them.  I thought it was real conveinent they had a car salesmen waiting at the service desk to speak to us after we got the bad news.  They NEVER did this before this makes me beleive they knew this was a time bomb waiting to go off.   I still owe about $10,900 on this car and it's worthless i can't trade in because it has so much negative equity no one will touch this car and if they do we'll end up eating the negative equity in any new car we buy.  IF YOU ARE EVEN CONSIDERING BUYING THIS CAR,  DONT!!! you'll save yourself the trouble and hassle.

CONTCT me. I am interested in getting invloved in a lawsuit hasani21@msn.com

Hey everyone there's been a lot of talk about a class action lawsuit, but unfortunately it's just that... talk. If your interested in getting Nissan to really do something we have to make a louder noise.  contact ALL your local news stations and get in touch with their consumer advocate person.  It only takes a few mintues to go online and make a brief statement. tell them to  GOOGLE 2002 altima  "engine problems" so they can see for themselves what is going on.
