I thought I was the only one ! I have the same problem with my 2006 330i except I have 18 K miles on it. Last Jan I replaced 3 rims + 1 tire. Now they claim I have to change all 4 tires because of cupping. Actually the cupping is very obvious when you run your hand over the tires. And the noise is driving me nuts. I am going to switch to non-run flats: Michelin Pilot MXM4 91H from Costco and have it mounted and wheel aligned at reliable corner auto shop. BMW service and parts will take you to the cleaners. A class action lawsuit against BMW sounds like a good idea. The shop foreman told me that a lot of BMW 3 series have had tire and rim issues. I amnot sure if the 5 series has this; X-3 and X5 come with option of non-RFTs

The dealer told me I should increase the tire pressure to see if the noise dur to cupping goes away. But I have read in Acura and Nissan forums that cupping ws common in cars from the first few batches. Think it is the same issue with 3 Series ?

Hi, I bought a 2006 BMW 330i with the sport package and as usual Run-Flat Tires came along with them. Vehicle has about 19000 miles Niow I have a flat tire (Due to a nail though). I am glad I bought the IN TIRE insurance package which apparently covers for 4 yrs.
Now I call BMW *** and they asked me to drive to a service station since it was a run flat. Now my service advisor says firstly he is not able to find tires all across North America... anybody here having similar problems in the recent past??
I am looking for any advices that might work.

use tire rack it is much cheaper than BMW dealer. Have dealer install new tires. In about 7000 miles you will notice the car cups tires and you have to pay for them.

I have 2005 525 w/sport and the same thing happened to me and the dealer tells me this is normal for cars equipped with sports package. What a lie the car is suppose to trash tires in about 5000-9000 miles I don't think so. I just replaced my tires w/15000 on car 2 months ago and now have 18000 on car and these tires are already cupped and loud as hell. The car sounds like a truck when stopping. BMW and the dealer say that they do not know of any problems. My car is up on lease in Nov 06 and I will not lease another BMW due to these tire issues and the lack of service I have received from the mfg. and dealer. I was recently talking to a mechanic that knows something obviously he does not work for BMW and he said cupping of tires can occur based on the vehicles camber. I guess this is the way the wheels are tilted outward (can see from back of car). BMW states that this must be in place because the car is a performance car and therefore cannot be adjusted. I think a class action suit is a great idea. If this happens I would hop on you just have to make sure the attorneys are not the only ones that get rich (this usually happens in most class actions)

my husband has a BMW525i and is on his 3rd set of tires due to cupping, luckily it's a company car, otherwise it would have come out of our pocket. Last time the had the wrong amount of air pressure so they adjusted it but then it started happening about a month later. If anyone has any idea what is causing this I would appreciate it.

Disillusioned: I have blown 9 tires on my new BMW 325xi 2005 in just over a year. They upgraded us to the sport tire option at a lower cost than the lease for our 2001 model. I am as astounded and frustrated as I can possibly be. I certainly haven't changed my driving patterns, and I drive all the same routes and yet the 9 tires I've blown this year amount for 9 of the 10 I've blown in ten years of driving. BMW claims there is nothing wrong with the car, they say the problem is that the roads are bad, yet I have NEVER heard of any other model car driving on the roads of montreal today having even half as many blowouts! Has anyone heard of this problem or had similar issues?
wow that is horrible i have never heard of that many blow outs in that short of a time before, i'd be pretty pissed

That's strange. I have a 2004 330xi with the Goodyear RST run flats. I drive on lots of back roads in NH, which get pretty ratty in the winter. No blow outs, even when hitting a pothole or frost heave.
But, these tires are terrible. Burned out the first set in only 20K miles, and was diligent about checking the pressure. I made the mistake of replacing with the same tires. Somehow, the new set feels extremely spongy even though I keep them at 35 psi front, 38 rear; like a different tire all together. Something (bad) is definitely up with these run flats.
Curious what psi people are using on their run flats.....

I bought a 2006 530xi in 12/05. I have had 3 blown tires in 6 months. Same story as you. Had a 325i for 5 yrs before with no problems with tires. Same driver. Same commute. HAs BMW done anything for you? I dropped mine off today with an angry note for the service manager.

I have an '06 Toy Sienna van with Dunlop run-flats. They were bald at 15K. Owners are outraged & lawsuits have been filed against Toy & Dunlop. Toy has begun replacing the tires as an extension of their car warranty (3 yrs, 36K), but if I didn't have access to this site I would've bought new tires out of my own pocket because Toy hasn't notified me of their "extended warranty" for these crap tires. Of course, Toy has replaced the baldies with new Dunlops, same tire. What an engineering, marketing, PR foulup for Toy. Sounds like the same mess for beamers.

My 2006 330 XI has only 3000 miles and terrible tire noise. I had the manager of a tire center look at them and he noticed a cupping problem. The tire center can not do anything for me as the tools needed to remove the BMW run flat tires cost over 12,000$ and they do not have them. I have an appt next week at BMW service. Not sure what they will find.
