Having charging problem.
I have some flaky readings at what appears to be a terminal strip, but must be some sort of electronic circuit. It is about 3-13/16 inches long and 1-1/2" wide . It has 5 terminals in line. Some terminals have only 1 wire and some have 2 wires. It is mounted on a bracket adjacent to the alternator.
What is this items purpose? Is it a alternator electrical disconnect for engine unloading for engine managment purposes?
There does not seem to be a proper voltage to the F/I connection.
This is on a Motor home so all is not as normal on a passenger vehicle. The unit has a battery isolator which is some what comparable to connecting the alternator to two batteries with a diode in the line to each of the two batteries. There is also a connection to the F/I connection on the alternator plug.
Only the S and F/I connections are used at the alternator plug.

I have a piece of heavy equiptment with a similar sounding device, I know it as a 'shunt', it's hot from the alternator, insulated at it's mounting, and serves as a power distributing strip to other circuits on the machine, trans solenoids, elec brakes etc. This could be similar to what you described, is yours hot? what do the other lines serve? sounds like maybe this aids in keping different batteries charged as well as feeding other circuits. hope this will help a little, still not sure the problem, what is the'non proper voltage' at the F/I connection.
