recent puchase of 93 GC with Select Trac.

If I run in part time or full time 4wd, it is difficult to get it back into 2wd. Seems as if the shifter is misalligned??  I can get it to go if I take some (seemingly) drastic measures of slowing down, and pulsing accelerator and reversing and hopping on one foot and singing yankee doodle.. but this seems excessive for normal behavior.

Is this all electronic shift? and if so, does this mean an electronic problem for it to 'take'?

Is it vacuum related (assuming that the transfer case is actuated with vacuum?

Anyone have this problem and, better yet, found how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

NWbear,
There is a linkage adjustment for the transfer case which will cause this problem is not adjusted correctly. It is fairly easy to adjust. This controls the transfer of input from the select-trac handle in the driver compartment to the transfer case. The adjustment is made on the shaft near the transfer case (under the driver side rear seat). See a Chilton's or Haynes manual for the exact procedure on your model. This should solve your problem. Also, as a first step, be sure that the fluid level is correct in the transfer case. Low fluid/no fluid will make it difficult to select 2 wheel/4 wheel mode. Top it off first and test before making any adjustments. May just be low fluid level in transfer case. PS vacuum is not relevant here...it's a straight mechanical linkage. Good luck, hope it works.
