This is my father-in-laws CJ. He replaced two gear sets before I started working on the jeep with him. I replaced one set and after that one stripped, I suggested we rebuild the motor. The cam bearings were worn out and the motor had 94,000 miles on it. I thought this would be the problem but not so. We had the block cleaned and checked at the machineshop. New cam bearings pressed in and freeze plugs. The blocked was honed and we put new rings, head work and bearings etc. He put 400 miles on the engine and the cam gear stripped again. We made a part to put on a drill motor and turn the oil pump shaft with the distributor removed. The new manual oil guage registered 55lbs of oil pressure. I removed the timing cover/oil pump. There is only one port that the oil goes into and I blew into this port with 125psi of air. The oil and air came out around the camshaft area but I think I have a problem with enough oil getting to this cam gear. I have heard of drilling a small hole in the plug behind the timing gear. Can anyone advise me or help me with this problem. Thanks! Jeff
