Need some help with this one.

Was heading to work down the highway with no problems running about 2900 rpm.  I came off the highway and turned the corner (obviously reducing rpm to about 1100 rpm.)  Van died.  Shifted to nuetral and restarted it.  It ran rough until I got the RPMs up over 2000.  I got to work and as I parked it died again.  Barely got it started and reved to about 2000 rpm again.  As long as it was over 1600 rpm, it ran well. Under 1600 it ran rough and eventually died.  Now it won't start at all.  I've replaced cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and coil.  I've verified that the distributor it turning while cranking.  There is a module in the distributor but is not available without buying entire distributor (Dealer price $475!).  Van has sat for about 6 months and battery is completely dead.  I could probably take it to a shop, but I am afraid of the cost, furthermore, I'm not sure the code would still be registered as the battery was completely drained.  My dilema is should I continue pumping $$ into van trial and error.  Am I getting close to finding the problem?  Could it be a sensor (one of two crank sensors, cam sensor, some other sensor I have not thought of.)  Or should I assume its the module in the distributor and find one in a junk yard.  OR am I in left field and need to refocus.  Any comments and criticism is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just how bad was the Battery in the first place. When trying to restart did the Battery seem weak? Did the MIL/SES light come on in the dash?
May still be able to pull code using the on-off-on-off-on key methad.
It sound more like battery power, system voltage trouble.
Next issue.
A MAP sensor gone bad won't allow Eng. to idle only just really rough and need Accel. peddle to keep it going.Check the vaccum tube to the MAP.I say replace.  Have not seen a cam sensor in the Dist. ever go bad. Crank sensor can be checked though does take a Tech II.This will cause a no spark.
Your sure you don't have spark? Then you also need a good power supply to test.

Battery was fine, however vehicle has sat for last 6 months with no attempt to work on.  It that time, the battery has run completely down.  Charged the battery up and cranked it over quite a bit.  Only code that comes up is code 12 (battery or computer recently disconnected code) using on-off-on-off method.
Are you saying it could be or couldn't be the map sensor?  DUmb question - - Where is the MAP sensor?

Thanks for the replies.

you said you replaced the dist cap and rotor, 3.0 dist is tricky if you installed the plug wires without referring to the underside of the cap you will loose the proper routing or order of the wires for each cylinder

I do believe I have it right.  I don't have spark going to the coil as of right now.  I appreciate you suggestions as many times the simple things are the things that boggle our minds.  Perhaps I'm missing the point.  Can you expand.

Thanks
