One day when I came home after dring the Van, I shut off the van and ran into my home do do a few things. When I went to restart the van, I first got some clicking noise when I turned the key in the ignition. But then I tried it again, and nothing. I tested the starter and replaced it. Still nothing. Now it is in the shop. The mechanic said it could be the ignition switch, or something else. He cant tell me if there is another problem is until he replaces the switch. I cant afford to have my van down with me with a new job. Does anyone have any ideas?

This happened on my Dodge Grand Caravan. We checked everything with a meter. We found absolutely nothing wrong. BUT, on the left side of the steering column towards the bottom near the dash there is a black module (sorry I don't remember the name) (my son works on airplanes not cars) and he was playing with the key and lifted this part up its a couple of inches long and the car started. He examined this and still could not find a problem. So he took some special wire and wrapped it around the steering column and the black thing and it runs like a charm. Of course you have to take off the steering column cover to get to it. Hope this helps others.

We've got the same issue with our 1999 Grand Caravan we've replaced the starter, the battery and plugs.  We've even had the engine quit on the highway a couple of times.  It seems to be worse when the weather is hot.

We'll try the module on the steering column tomorrow.  I've also read to reset the ECU (on-board computer) since the van came with an alarm system.

Anyone else dealing with this issue?

RE: When I start the my 2002 Dodge Caravan I get some clicking noise but the engine doesn't turn over. Sometimes if I stomp and hold the brake, it starts. Sometimes if I put it in neutral and then back in park, it starts. Sometimes it just starts.when I turned the key in the ignition. Sometimes it just clicks and after an hour or two or three, it just starts.

What the hell???????

It is erratic and I can't determine/isolate causal conditions.

Had the starter checked - no prob. Ignition switch - no prom.

What is this black box that you wrap with special wire(?????) I told my mechanic that and he asked me if I was having an acid flashback?

Obvious;y this isn't just me or my van,

what is the problen and what is the solution?

I think you have a different problem, the company is alone responsible for the vehicle you can claim on the company property stating that parts are not quality which they have to be and also you should replace with a new car i suppose. I think they its manufacturing defect or the parts they have used are not quality one.
