I was driving a few days ago and my Check Engine light came on.  My vehicle then started doing what i would call stuttering.  It's having trouble going.  Ive also noticed this black stuff on the ground, coming out of the tailpipe.  Right at first I thought maybe I had gotten some bad gas, but ive since added some Heet and gotten more gas with no results.  Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like a clogged cat or bad spark plugs to me. Could also possibly be a mass air flow sensor.  Take it to autozone and get that there code read.  That would help us figure out your problem

On a further note most autozone will not be able to read your code because it is pre OBD II. There is two test you can do it key on engine off or key on engine running.

It definately sounds like it could be ignition related, especially if it just happened suddenly - which motor do you have?
