Chevrolet gives its minivans more power but takes away all-wheel-drive models for 2007. Uplander shares its basic front-wheel-drive design with the Buick Terraza and Saturn Relay. Only Chevy offers a regular-length version, which is 5 inches shorter than the extended-length models. Both lengths come in LS trim. Extendeds also come as 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT models. A 240-hp 3.9-liter V6 replaces the 2006 Uplander's 201-hp 3.5 V6. A 4-speed automatic remains the only transmission. All Uplanders have ABS and traction/antiskid control. Load-leveling suspension is optional. Uplanders seat seven via 2nd-row buckets and a 50/50 split 3rd-row bench that folds flat atop the cargo floor. All these seats are removable. Front side airbags are standard on all LTs, optional on LS. 2LT and 3LT add 2nd-row side airbags. Curtain side airbags are unavailable. Power operation for one or both sliding side doors is standard or optional, depending on model. DVD entertainment is standard on LT.
Uplander bows out after model-year 2009, our sources say. In its place comes a large crossover wagon on General Motors' new Lambda platform. The 2007 Saturn Outlook introduces this family; a related 2008 Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia bow in the first half of 2007. Chevrolet's Lambda is expected to show in calendar '09 as a 2010 model, reportedly with a new name, SUV-flavored styling, and a possible all-wheel-drive option.
