OK, I've got a '01 Sport Trac 2WD with approx. 70K. Just had to give it it's 3rd front brake job and replace the front rotors. Rear brakes have been adjusted and are still good. Problem is that now it acts like the ABS wants to kick in at very low speed, light braking. However, ABS light does not come on. This is very annoying... Any suggestions?

I'm thinking speed sensor.Abs unit . Blockage. Sticking caliper. Does it have traction control.More toward's speed sensor test that first.Have same problem with grand dam but light did evenctual come on for abs and traction control.

Good I am not the only one loosing his mind.  Broth my truck in last week before the holidays to get the abs checked.  My mechanic knows what it does but has no solution.  So if you know what needs to be fixed let me know.  I will be searching on the internet to find out if there is a solution.  I am about to bring my truck in to a specialist.

your not crazy, i just changed all 4 disc brakes on my 2004 sport trac and have the same thing happening. brakes work fine at high speeds but when i almost approach stopping speed the ABS or the Hydrolic control valve start freeking out. kind of seems like the caliper in the front is not holding, but i know its not the case.  the calipers after reinspection all look fine, no fluid leeking, etc.

the symptoms are pulsating in the steering wheel and the brakes almost feel like they are letting go.. this only happens at very slow speed.
I have no lights on, except the ABS light for a few seconds during ignition.

I got fed up after 24 hours of frustration and brought it to the dealer. I will post back when i hear back from the what it was.
Please pray for me i dont get reamed by the dealar.  My truck just passed the 36,000 warranty...  36,998 miles exact.

Were you able to get your braking problem corrected?  I am having the same trouble on my 02 and have been told it's an ABS problem but I have not been able to take it to the dealer yet.

thanks

Has anyone had any luck solving this?? My boyfriend's '01 Sport Trac is doing the same thing. My uncle is a mechanic and is looking at it and also came up with the conclusion that it's the ABS system, even though the light is on and the computer reads no problem. Like others have said we've had the brakes checked, and everything else is fine. It also only happens at low speeds. Please if anyone has any clue what is wrong and what fixed it, let me know. Please if someone has had this fixed let me know.

yes my problem was resolved. The most important thing is: MAKE SURE YOU USE FORD MOTORCRAFT PADS AND ROTORS ONLY. any after market rotors make look identical but there is an issue with the exciter ring being off by fractions of a micron.. you will drive yourself nuts if you dont use motorcraft parts..  The wheel sensors must be exact with the exciter ring which is located on the rotors. I had 2 mechanics go crazy over this one. I am now convinced that when it comes to the brakes, take it to FORD and only FORD..  If you are having this problem ask yourself.  did i use only motorcraft parts?
if not this is your problem..

Remove wheel, brake caliper, rotor to get to the wheel speed sensor.
