i have a 1970 pontiac catalina with a 400 big block V8 i had a water hose blow a few weeks ago so i replaced the hoses went home the over heat light came on so then i replaced the thermsdat and water pump and put an actual temp guage on 2 watch the temp it shows my engin running at 250 the guage redgisters 280 what could this be the old guage was just a light

How is the radiator? Could also be a head gasket problem.
