his questions is regarding to my fiance's 2000 Cherokee. She went out shopping last Friday (went about 3 miles from our house) and when she came out she was unable to start the Jeep. I went and got it started by pressing the gas pedal in & was able to limp it home. As soon as you let off the gas pedal the car will stall. When you get it stared and drive the car runs absolutely fine (no backfires, misfires, no powerloss), BUT it will not idle and will stall when the gas pedal is released. Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same problem with my 2000. Check the thermostat it may be broken. I found when I did drive it home, while keeping it above 1000rpm it never got to full running temp. One temp sensor talks to the computer and if temp is wrong it tries to compensate and runs crappy. I did a quick check and themostat was broken.

I have just gone through the same problem. Mine was not enough voltage to the computer and IAC motor. (Idle air control motor). I just got done cleaning both battery terminals and posts. They were a little loose on the posts as well. After this quick cleaning, all is good again. Starts, idles and runs fine again. If that doesn't do it, check into a new IAC motor, jeep only, don't buy aftermarket. Clean the housing that the IAC fits into of all carbon deposits. Check the EGR valve to make sure it's not stuck open either. All the best.
