What would be genral signs that a waterpump is going bad on a 97 Honda civic EX with the 1.6L 4-cyl, VTEC engine (automatic trans.)?

I'm curious because I noticed I've had to add coolant my radiator coolant bowl about every month (only about a cup or so of coolant every month).  Is this normal?

The engine doesn't overheat or run funny.  There isn't any leaks on the ground or on the engine that I can see.
I don't really hear much of any noises from the engine.   The coolant in the radiator and in the bowl look clean, so it doesn't look like it's mixing with any other fluids.  I do drive about 1500-2000 miles per month, so is this maybe why... evaporation due to a lot of driving???

What kind of stuff would I see/hear/feel if the water pump was going bad???

pressure test the cooling system, this should show if the water pump is leaking, it is located under the timing cover and cannot be seen, when you replace your timing belt (every 60k) it gives you the oportunity to see it, I allways tell my customers to replce the water pump at the same time as the timing belt due to the slight labor difference and small cost
