My 1997 Toyota Tacoma (133,000 miles) is making a horrible screeching noise. It only occurs while driving, the noise cannot be reproduced in park or neutral while revving the engine. The noise sounds like it is very close to the driver. Also, the speedometer needle shakes while this noise is occurring.
I have the same problem with my '97 Tacoma. I only hear the screetching in cold weather at high speeds. I suspect the speedometer cable just because of the needle vibration and the fact that the noise stops after driving for a while on the freeway. Maybe the cable housing is made of a material that contracts more with cold than the cable, causing interference and friction when the cable is cold.Any other ideas or input? Are speedometer cables hard to install? They're not very expensive.
ask your mechanic if u have no experience of installing the speedometer cables..\used-auto-engines
