I just popped in the thermal control amp. voila! fixed it right up!
I'm just curious what everyone's temp is. After driving for about 15 mins., I'm getting 60 F.

If anyone needs a Thermo Control Amplifier, let me know. I ordered the wrong one (I needed the two wire). I have a new in bag, 3 wire 27675-9Z000. Email petebriant@hotmail.com if interested. $30 including shipping.

Did you ever find a solution? Mine is still blowing hot after replacing the thermal control amplifier as well.

I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier 3.3L V6-3275 engine and am experiencing the same problems you are. I was told that the Xterra and Frontier are basically the same vehicle. One is just a pickup and the other is an SUV. The A/C blower intermittently blows hot air after 1st pressure cycle. I hear, from this string, that it is quite possible that is is the Thermo Control Amplifier. Firestone said it would cost $96 in labor to repair. He wasn't able to give me a quote on the part, but I gather it is in the $40-$50 range from this string. However, I read from another person on this string who works in an auto shop that it is the triple-pressure switch. Are these two different things or the same? I don't know much about mechanics. If it is the triple-pressure switch, how much is the approximate cost of repairing it (labor and parts)?

Does anyone know if the 2000 Altima can use the thermal control amp too? I see all these postings that are for Xterrra's & Frontiers. I wonder if anyone with an Altima has the same problem? I was going to buy those recharge kits but after reading all these postings it seems this switch could help me out. Trouble is I can't find it for an altima; I only get xterra/frontier! Any help is appreciated!

HAVE to have the thermocoupling or thermoprobe replaced. I've had the same problem and had the high pressure hose replaced and it did not fix the problem. FINALLY I insisted the mechanic change the thermocouple - problem fixed! I went so far as to print out a buch of info from the web and make them read it. I also insisted they reimburse me for the hose work since that was obviously not the problem.

Wow there is some great info on this page(s). Has anyone tryed overiding the thermo control amp jumping the 2 blue wires on the connector on the outside of the evap. box (previoulsy mentioned on page 4). I have tryed and clutch is still not engaging. Does system have to be pressurized for clutch to engage. or what else could cause clutch not to engage. I used a jumper wire strait from the batt. and clutch engaged just fine. any sugg. would be great -THX

ncfrontier2000: I to have the intermittent AC problem where the compressor clutch may or may not engage. I found that the infamous Thermo Control Amplifier failure mode can be tested by shorting the two blue wires on the female connector on the outside of the evaporator box. Disconnect the connector from the wires that run into the box, with the red, white and black wires. If your clutch is not engaged, short the wires and see if the clutch engages. Good chance this indicates that it is indeed the thermo control amplifier that is defective. At least this might keep some from replacing this very difficult to replace part if it is not indeed the issue. Would be interested on input on this from others.
do u have 2-pin or 3-pin connector?

I GUESS I AM LATE TO THE CLUB MEETING! I just bought a used 2000 Nissan Xterra and guess what... Same old story. Blows hot air (Thats all we have in AZ) For one day it worked ok. Then day two when i turned the A/C on it would do the clicking on and off and sometimes it would stay on and othee times it wouldn't. Then after a week it stopped blowing any iota of cool air. Now it's all hot. Paid to have the freon charged. Dealership was NO help even though it was only two days after I bought it when I brought the issue up to them. So... Do I replace the HP hose or the Thermo Control Amp first? A mechanic is telling me to replace the compressor/drier/and something else... Sure wish I had read this first!! This is my third Nissan and by all means my last!!!!

By the way, does anyone know how to print this whole thread? I want to send it to a few choice Nissan Dealerships, BBB, and consumer affairs via e-mail if possible. I plan to call the # provided earlier to push for a re-call as well : 1-800-nissan1. Thanks!

This is no joke. Over the past couple of years I've spent more that a thousand dollars on my 2000 xterra ac. The hoses, the dryer, compressor, relay, you name it, I had it replaced by the low lifes at nissan. When summer rolled in, the ac stopped cooling and that's why I always thought it had to be a sensor. Anyway, that all changed yesterday when I replaced the "Controller Assembly Nissan part #27675-9z000." First I removed the entire glove compartment by taking out six screws which face forward using a small phillips driver. Then I saw the old wire and connector. I then removed 3 small (silver) phillips screws which run vertically and have to be taken out from the bottom. Then I separated what appears to be a foot long black plastic box. In order to remove the old wire you have to take out 4 larger (gold plated) screws that face forward with a larger phillips driver (have to do this in order for hand to fit) and insert your hand. Before removing the old wire note the placement! It fits between what appears to be the ribs of a radiator and then connect it. Replace all 13 screws, start your car, and crank up the ac. It works! All for $50. You would think that the nissan dealer would do this first without having to leave your car there for days on end and spending a fortune!

I have a 2000 Altima and it does have a three wire TCA. The symptom on my Altima is the compressor kicks off and on way too often(more off than on). I have been able to confirm by removing my glove box disconnecting the three wire plug and shorting two of the wires (sorry dont have the specific colors I can look again) on the plug that goes to the ECM. When the two wires are shorted the compressor stays on indefinately. I would'nt leave it in that condition too long it can damage the compressor.
