2001 Ford Taurus... The window doesn't roll up

The other day I rolled the driver side window up, it made a crunchy-grindy noise. I didn't think much of it. I rolled it down a little later, and it wouldn't roll back up. And much later I accidently rolled it all the way down at a drive-thru. Now it is stuck, completely down. It does nothing when you push the up button.

I took off the door panel... I don't know what to do from there. Since it rolled down I'm not thinking its the motor, but maybe. I don't know anything.

Any suggestions? This was fine when the weather was nice. But now its starting to rain again.

(Going to a mechanic is out of the question. ***

The regulator's probably broke, buy the Haynes repair manual for
the car {at Pep Boys --about $15} it should tell how to fix it.

yeah it sounds like your regulator is bound up. And (I’m *** since you have been trying to roll it back up there’s a good chance you burned out your motor with all that extra strain on it.

regulators and motors are easy to change, like previously stated, just buy the cheap repair manual and follow the instructions.

Good luck.

just wanted to mention I had/have the same problem with my driver's side window~ i took it in because it was under warranty and they fixed it, but now its happened again~ I'm wondering if its a defect in the 2001 Taurus~
I also have to repair my right window[unrelated] I took the door panel off, but it looks like I need a special tool to get any further? anyway, thanks for the tip about the the repair book~ I'm sick of getting rained on too, and I don't have the *** to take it to a shop~ any other suggestions would be appreciated!

alot of car companies seem to have problems with their window motors and regulators.  Its a fairy common problem
