Yesterday, my ford transmission decided it no longer wanted to shift out of 1st gear. It works fine in 1st and reverse, but will no longer shift into 2nd gear or higher. What are my possible problems?

My 95 Taurus had the same problem once it heated up. The fix was replacing the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) which is located externally on the tranny where the speedometer cable goes into the tranny. One bolt holds it into the tranny. It is a little difficult to get to. Other than that I would check computer codes.
