Both in our late 60's my wife and I just retired as associate pastors of a Florida church and moved to Joliet, Ill. to live with our daughter. On the way to church (30 miles roundtrip) I feel a slight jerk at times when the gears are changing in our 1995 Crown Vic. When I was young, the same jerk would have been described as a U-Joint going bad, although it is only slight. I check the fluid and instead of cough medicine red texture, it is almost creamy pink, but very light, but it registers full. I am afraid if I take it anywhere they will say I need new tranny, but it runs smooth and travels great, I just happen to notice that slight jerk in gear changing. Any ideas? God Bless! Calvin Peace

Creamy pink is a bad sign.
Have it checked closer. That is an indication of engine coolant entering the transmission. There is a transmission cooler in the radiator that can spring a leak. The coolant will attack the bondings of the clutch plates and destroy it. If it is fairly recent a good flush and radiator repair may help. It may take several flushes to get rid of the fluid.
Also check the engine performance. Even a slight stumble can seem like the transmission is wonky.

A cheaper fix might be to go to an external cooler and bypass the internal one. You would still want to flush the tranny fluid good though.
Good Luck.

Thanks Gary So Much! I neglected to say that we had to have the radiator replaced a couple of weeks back after arriving in Illinois from Florida. We had two leaks in my daughters drive way - one oil and the other a clearer or even tranny fluid colored leak. The mechanic stopped the oil leak and replaced the radiator. I din't realize there was a connection between radiator and tranny. Also, we pulled a 12 foot u-haul trailer up from florida bringing my granddaughter piano, etc., quite a heavy load, that even started overheating if I tried to drive to fast. I will go to one of those places and see about having tranny flushed, etc. Thinks are a little tight until we sell our condo in Florida, which hopefully won't be too long - totally renovated and beautifully furnished overlooking pool, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, 3 miles from beautiful beach all for $115,000. It has been easy to tell others to be patient, but hard for me after working 60 years, then retiring, moving north and now living with 2 more adults and 5 kids instead of just me and my wonderful wife of 45 years. I had hoped retirement would be smooth sailing, but something always comes up to take the funds you thought you could kick back with. Anyways, thanks, and please pray this Southern Boy from Carolinas originally can make it in Chicago Land. Calvin
