I have a 2005 Dodge Ram in my yard which I had to recover from an accident scene. The big nut at the rear pinion flange came undone at 60 mph ! The flange pulled off the pinion causing the propshaft to flail around under the truck until it slid from the rear of the transmission. The force broke the rear housing off the transfer case. The pinion fell or was drawn back into the crownwheel causing rear axle lock up. The vehicle skidded off the road. Unfortunately there was no prior warning. Has this happened anywhere else ?
