On my 2000 base Cherokee with 4cyl the following has failed:
- fuel gauge - speedometer - odometer
In addition the radio has failed. There is no time display and when it is turned on only a single "pop" is hear from the speakers.
I have checked the fuse panel & power distribution box and everything looks OK. Everything else on the vehicle works.
What would affect the Instruments AND Radio?
Any ideas on how to repair?

The CCD bus links all of the onboard computers. One offending module will shut down the bus and communication. Your failed gauge cluster is driven by the body control module over the data bus, no communication, no gauges. The door and several other modules including the radio use the same bus. One way to check or try to find the offending module is to disconnect them one at a time and see if things come alive.
I had a simmilar problem and the engine would not start, turned out to be a bad crank position sensor, which would not allow the powertrain control module to boot and provide communication over the bus. Unplugged the CPS and gauges etc. came back to life, replaced the module and all is well.
