We may be purchasing a used Lexus ES300, but we heard that the service costs run higher than normal. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks,
John

Generally, that is true. However, if you are buying from a dealer, some of them will certify the car and pay for any maintenance work neeeded,(up to a point) depending on whether or not there is any warranty left. It is best to buy a certified preowned vehicle that is certified by LEXUS and not the dealer. Ask who is certifying the car if they present it as a such. Don't be bashful, soometime you get what you ask for.

My nephew who is a certified master mechanic, and works at an independent garage in an affluent area, told us that he sees a lot of Lexus in for repairs and that they are expensive to repair. He felt the Toyota brand seemed pretty reliable, Lexus much less so, considering their additional cost. The difference between the two lines is not apparently worth the additional price paid for the Lexus. This was a surprising insight from a really good mechanic who is unbiased in his observations about reliability. I'm glad we did not fork over the $ 40,000+ for the Lexus IS350, no matter how pretty the package was.
