Hello I have an 89 subaru GL 4 door with an automatic transmission.
When we're driving the transmission seems to not shift into its highest gear...
We're taching like 5,000 doing like 60MPH.
Any ideas on what causing this or how to fix it? You help is MUCH appreaciated!

Check the transmission fluid level. Look in the owners manual and it will tell you how to do it. If that is ok, take it to a tranny shop for a diagnosis,

I'll def check the fluid levels. I'm trying to get out of this without spending much money (im really poor) can anyone give me any roucg ideas of what could be causing this? then maybe I can try to fix it myself.
I'm good at car work just not diagnosing some problems.

If the fluid is not burnt, then I would look for a governor problem in the tranny.

I would have no idea as I have never worked on one! I just thought it sounded like a governor problem. You might want to see if you can get a ATSG manual for it. It would give you all the details you would need for working on the tranny.
