I recently put on an aftermarket open air filter on my '98 chevy malibus 3100 V6 enigne. it sounds great and i can tell a difference in throttle response. I was wondering if anyone else had any other cheap ideas for added horsepower that i could do to it?

No....the added air will mess with the mass air flow sensor and i am sure your fuel economy went down hill....here is the reality...it is a chevrolet malibu with a 3.1 it is not a race car it is a family sedan...all aspects of this car are controlled by the PCM there is no easy way to increase horse power other than purchasing one of those aftermarket computer mod chips, but they cause more harm then good...here is how it works...have a go fast car and a comuter car....and on the go fast car make it a real car not a malibu...women with children drive malibus..my daliy driver is a 06 Ram and my go fast is a 69 Hemi Cuda

Well for $4,000 it is a pretty solid and quick car. I dont really understand ur reasoning behind my gas mileage going down because of a new air filter, if anything it would improve it... and of course id rather have a hemi cuda or a mach 1 or some other muscle car like that but at 18 i really dont want the responsibiblity of a loan payment due everymonth or to owe people money... with being a smaller and alot lighter car than all the camaros and mustangs i usually keep up with em pretty good until about  40 mph when obviously a five speed manual transmission top end is going to smoke my automatic malibu but its still fun... and idk where ur from but theres alot of ricers around where i live and i still kick there *** so when im keeping up or beating most of the "better" cars in my town i wouldnt really say its a just a car for women with children...

Ok so adding more air flow or a cold air intake will drop fuel economy...were do you get your information...you sell aftermarket junk accessories on the internet...installing parts does not make you a tech..do you understand how the mass air system on a GM vehicle works...if you did you would realize what happens when you change the airflow into a mass air engine. And If you would like my ASE cert numbers you may have them...I have been a certified master tech for 4 years...have had my advanced auto performance L1 for 3 years and recently took my L2 test and am awaiting results.  Before you talk why dont you back up your information what makes you credible, have you ever been to tech school...do you understand basic engine management?

YOU were the one who said MORe air would hurt fuel economy.. so WHERE do you get your info from???

not only do I make cold air intakes by hand but I also do PCM tuning for ALL 96+ GM v6 passenger vehicles so I think I know quite a bit more about this than you...

I have been working on cars as long as I have been able and that is what makes me have the knowledge that i have...

DO YOU HAVE ANY clue how that MASS air system works?... cause I do!  did you know that you while tuning VE tables that you must unplug that MAF sensor?  or how about that the MAFS is only there to read incoming air..

I have know way too many puck kids who were ASE certed that didnt know anything about what they were talking about.. amazingly just like you...

hmm what happens when your sensor reads more air is coming in.. well it does what it is supposed to do.. it reads the extra air and the PCM adjust accordingly by adding more fuel.. more air+ more fuel= bigger boom in the combustion chamber...

I would have to say I know ALOT more about engine managment than you considering I tune cars for a ******* living.. so go back to school and ask them why you dont know your *** from a hole in the ground about cars when you just spent all that money and now time to prove you know something only to come here to find out you know NOTHING!!!!

MAYBE YOU CAN ANWSER ME THIS... WHERE IS THE PROOF OF THIS KNOWLEDGE YOU CLAIM TO HAVE WHEN I JUST TORE EVERYTHING YOU WROTE TO **** you dont know the first thing about modding cars and you think you can come on here and tell people you know everything cause you went to school for it.. ROFLMAO

all you have proved is you dont know ANYTHING AT ALL

Gosh...Well I think the CAI helps, but either way I just thought you might want to know that lvemy trash talks about showing up certified "kids" and how he has been building CAI's for so long and owns "MP Racing".....first off I know of this lvemy guy from other forums.  He is just a kid himself (which is why he doesn't mention how long he has been building performance parts, because it hasn't been very long).  Also, he doesn't "build" them, he buys them off EBay and puts and MP Racing logo on them and then jacks up the price.  Also he is about 20 yrs. old so the only thing he does for a living so to speak, is eat his parents food and clean his room.  And also, MP Racing isn't even a place physically, it's just a little E-store on a website he has and they sell 5-6 things for Malibus.  Just to let everyone know, he's not as big of a deal as he claims to be.

Here is a URL that links to a pic of lvemy, cut & paste this into your internet browser's address bar to see it.  He's just a kid:
I recently purchased 2 items from MP Racing.   I got their front STB and the engine brace.  My initial impressions of these items were that they are top notch.  The worksmanship is excellent and the fit and finish is second to none.  Lvemy3100's customer service is excellent.  In fact is is a lot better than 99% of other companies I have dealt with.  The packages arrived quickly and the packaging was great.

The quality of these parts far exceeds their price.  The STB is a polished cross bar with gloss black end plates.  The end links are adjustable for a precise fit.

Here are some pics

Here are some pics of the engine brace

I will get some install pics when I am done as well as driving impressions.  The brace also has adjustable end links with heim joints.  Very impressive.

I highly recommend both products
