Had a new transmission installed in Nov. 2005. Live in the city, don't pull anything with it.
About 2 weeks ago, out of the blue, when I got off work, I put it in reverse, backed up fine, then went to accelerate forward while in drive and the RPM's just rev'd, and I didn't go anywhere. I put it in 2nd, and took off fine. Stopped, turned the engine off, then started again, put it in drive, nothing.
After playing with gears a little bit while driving, I established that I can take off in 2nd fine, and when I'm going about 40 I can shift back into drive and it works fine. When I stop in drive, however, I have to go back to 2nd or 1st gear to take off again.
Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

What solved the problem, I have the same trouble with my 2002 escape
