I am looking for an off-road capable (I go camping in the wilderness quite often) but also highway vehicle to tow my RV.  The three above have started my interest in a full-size SUV but I am totally confused.  I currently own a 96 Jeep GC but it is maxed-out on the towing weight with the lift kit, tires and mileage (165,000) on her so I have to move up to a newer and full-size SUV.  I am looking more for a 2002 - 2005 due to price.

Can anyone help me cut through the clutter?  OK after a little more searching (after a week of it) I was able to find out that the dif between the Denali and the "plain" Yukon was just that the Denali was the luxury version but what the heck does that mean as far as performance and my needs??

There is a big dollar difference between Yukon and Yukon Denali about 10K.
There is also engine and trans 6.2l 380 hp denali, 6 sp trans denali, a bunch of trim "bling" items chrome etc, there is suspension and stability differences and maybe more, check gmc site. I have 2007 Denali xl loaded lists 57k, should have every option. I love the car/truck 9000 miles so far. It is great for trips and it is quick around town. Road milage 18, around town 15.8 +-. Yukon has much better milage with smaller motor and shut down cylinders option. I had a Hummer H2 prior so I think the XL gets great milage.

The Z71 will be slightly more capable for off-road stuff (like camping), but a Yukon will also perform just fine. As far as the performance and your needs, the Denali has a slightly lower towing capacity when compared to a regular Yukon (7900 lbs. vs. 8200 lbs.). The Denali does have a larger engine, but it is tuned for performance and not towing. I have an 03 Yukon and love it. If the extra "bling" is worth your money, then go for the Denali.
