This regulars on this one is that it is a Dodge Ram Van B150 with a 318, automatic transmission. Since I got it, everytime the car shifts from second to third the engine stalls and dies. First thought was maybe the cat was backing it up so we took the cat out for now just to test other things, next we checked the gas and since it had been sitting for a while we drained the tank and flushed the lines as best we could and then put new gas in it, changed fuel filter and tested the fuel pump, which is mechanical and seems to have really good flow. Air filter is new, changed transmission fluid and it was very old and brown in color. Carburetor has been cleaned and put new gaskets in it but not completly rebuilt, everything was free moving and no gunk or any real deposits to speak of that i saw. I cannot think of anything else to try, i have not tried much transmission wise but the way it runs in the other gears, all except third, make it seem like not a transmission problem, it doesn't slip or do anything strange at all. I have not set the timing but it seems to run good through all other gears so again not sure if the timing would make this happen.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Thomas

it just dies out real smooth, pretty much like turning off the ignition and then coasting. I hope you can tell me whats wrong with it or atleast where to start looking, it is driving me crazy. ![]()
