Odyssey2005 with PAX. Tires are excellent. Bit pricey.
I do not rotate tires. Replace two front after ca. 25k and move two rear tires to front at the time of replacement (front tires wear out quickly on front wheel drive cars). First replacement (tires + rims) for $200 (rim was free). Next $240 (tire only). Now I read here $300-1200. It seems that dealers feel that it is the time to ripoff customers. Last replacement done at dealership - those tires when put in front have more vibration than original factory produced - seems that technicians at dealerships are unable to match factory quality.
New, safer technology; all new technologies are initially more expensive. Honda and Michelin should control the cost with target below $120 total cost for installed tire.
Next move - replace rims with steel from Odyssey LX and get normal tires till prices come down or technology becomes obsolete because of cost.
Agree that not putting spare tire was short thinking of the executive who used short bus to get to school. If PAX goes bad on Friday, there is no place to fix it till Monday - what if you are in Florida and have to be in Michigan on Monday.

Call Michelin. Those tires have free road hazard repair-replacement. Dealer stole $85 from you.

Dealer is ripping you off. Those tires wear out before warranty.
Get even - demand free replacement. On lemon law get a new Odyssey.

Hi,

I also have a 2006 odyssey touring with PAX that needs new tires after 30K miles. I am very confused since 3 different dealers have given me different answers to the PAX problem. One dealer had told me that I cannot change the tires to regular ones. Another one has told me that I can but that the TPMS sensors will not work. The third one has not mentioned a single problem about the sensors and would charge $483/tire. Could you please share your experience about switching from PAX to regular tires? I am in northern California. Thanks.

Hi All,
'06 Odyssey with Pax. Went to local auto wheels, tires and various accessories dealer and bought Helo 832 Chrome 18" rims and BF Goodrich 235-60-18 tires.
Had the shop cut hole in the side wall to remove TPMS unit and put them on the new rims. Cost $1600.00  Best $$ I spent!! Van looks great with new rims!! Plus rides better... much better!!  I guess I was one of the luckier one because I got 42000 miles from original tires but then again was anal about rotation and ran 44lbs pressure!!!  Still pissed off about no spare. Have to order rim, tire and hardware to secure it in rear well.

I did same, i went to discount tire direct and got tires, sensors and rims shipped to my house for 1400. the sensors were immediately compatible and had no problem with them. It costs 1400 for just pax tires. if you have an odyssey and want to ditch the tires go to there web page and call them. they were shipped in a few days and could not  be happier.

if you have any ? about how i did this post a reply and i will get back to you

Hello, the thread was much too long to read completely.

But does anyone have any questions, I install pax tires with a 1st gen machine or whatever you are  calling it and I can do them in 20 minutes each(rushed). It depends on the technician and if they know what they are doing.

What kind of prices are you paying for installs? our prices are around 199 ea tire 22ea for the gel packs and 40 ea labor. Aprox 1044.00 at the dealer.

As for swapping rims/tires, I think we should make up a parts package because its possible to switch to a regular rim and tire combination but you are going to have to buy the tpms sensors that are installed in pax system tires. You can always use your current sensors but you will then have to pay labor to remove them. You would also need to buy a spare rim/tire, spare tire adapter plate/bolt, and possibly new lug nuts.

By the way if anyone is interested I have two pax tires i am trying to get rid of, 100 each. Rim and tire tire tread depth at 10/32 less than 5,000 miles on them. (came off of a wrecked car damaged rims, but i installed different rims)

I am right there with you!! It makes me angry when you buy an expensive car and only get 30,000 miles on the tires.  The dealer wants to charge me 1200.00 for 4 new tires for my 2006 Odyssy Touring.  Michelin said they would give me 30% off.  The dealer gets 100.00 per tire for labor.  Pretty expensive.  1200.00 for 30,000 miles.
There is something wrong with that picture.

I have about 35k on my 07 Odyssey with the PAX system. The tires were holding up better than most, as I probably could have gotten another 10-15k on them before the wear bars, however after reading some of the comments here I decided that it would actually be worse on the road with a flat with these tires....vs. a normal tire.

My solution: went to www.thehondapartsstore.com to get stock EX 16" rims for $163/apiece, bought the TPMS monitor assemblies for $35 apiece, and went to tirerack.com to get a set of Yokohama Avid TRZ radials for about $100 apiece. For about $1300 I now have a stock-looking vehicle with much better tires than before.

I will try to sell the old units on craigslist for whatever I can get for them.

Done.

Hey, I called TIRE RACK and they told me that I would have to go to the dealership.  Did you tell TIRE RACK that you had a Touring or and LX when you placed your order for the 5 TPMS rims and Michelin MXV4s?

Thanks!

I have an idea how you can get out of your honda odyssey pax system problem.  If your financing your odyssey or you paid cash you can go to the dealership an get out of the odyssey by trading it in and getting the lease special for 2009 odyssey without pax.  This way you will be saving yourself the extra money of having to deal with the pax problem in the future and can get rid of the odyssey without alot of money out of your pocket.  At the end of the 36 month lease you can buy the odyssey you will be saving yourself alot of money.  If you were to do it that way.
