hondax2: Today's PAX Tire Ordeal: Van owned for 13 months, 16,000 miles. New tread depth on PAX is 10/32, mine were 3/32 front and 7/32 rear. Michelin specs are minimum of 4/32 tread depth. Called Michelin at 877-pax-tire (aw, how cute) they now have 24/7 support BTW, that tells you something right there.
Set up a claim number and then called the area dealers for PAX costs, best was $192 for the tire plus $75 each tire for labor (!). FYI another dealer 15 miles away was charging $300/tire plus $100 each for labor and my local honda dealer did not have the PAX machine even though the Michelin database said they did.
Note that I specifically asked about the tire life when I bought the van and the dealer stated it was 35K miles. So today I had the dealer I went to contact the Michelin rep to start the claim, they agreed to pay 70% of the tire cost for the two tires that were out of spec, so it cost me $170+/- to get the two tires replaced after one year, and it looks like I will be doing two more at full price in 6 months unless Michelin comes to their senses. My local tire dealer (non-PAX) said he would put together a tire/rim package for the local Touring owners as he has started seeing quite a few people come in with less than 20k miles and shot tires. He said it reminded him of the Ford Explorer tire fiasco a few years ago.
A few other items: Since I didn't bring proof of tire rotation and my tires were on the high side on pressure (which was done by a honda dealer BTW as the TPMS kept saying the pressure was low) Michelin resisted paying anything until I told the dealer I was going to keep the old tires for the lawsuit that was filed in LA in March, then within literally 10 seconds the Michelin rep agreed to pay 70% as a 'goodwill' gesture. Also I have had two Michelins with material defects on my Pilot. Expect to lose a day if you go thru this tire claim process, it took us 6 hours today.
Here is your ordeal, you did not rotate your tires, that is why you could not produce proof of rotation. So in response, you are going to make another bogus claim against the big bad car manufacturer that, in turn, will cause vehicles to cost even more for us honest/knowledgable car buyers, that know how to take car of our vehicles. Thank you sir, you are what makes American buyers what they are today. Future reference there mr lawsuit man, every 7,000 to 10,000 miles you need to rotate your tires, and YES, you might have to pay for it too, unless you throw a lawsuit threat up against quicky lube when they quote you a price. Have a nice day!
p.s. BTW/FYI=just about as cute as 888-pax-tire.

I noticed that you can choose between the PAX system and a "normal" system on the 2008 Odyssey Touring. Does anybody know if you can replace the PAX tires of a 2007 Odyssey Touring with the non PAX system tires and rims of the 2008 Odyssey Touring?

Honda Odyssey PAX tires snowchains New problem found, not yet proven but believe that the Tire snow chain combo is to be the reason for the problem. Using the snow chains as RECOMMENDED BY MICHELIN for the FIRST time, the SPLASH GUARD came off the bottom of the car below the engine. Upon reaching the ski resort destination I backed into the snow covered parking stall. The snow shoveled up on the splash guard and removed most of my front bumper around the head lights, tearing the front bumper at the mounts on one side and pulling the bumper tabs from the other side of the car exposing the splash guard. It folded back in front of the car away from the headlights upon backing up. (Here we go again…) I now have a car held together with a little twine I happen to have left over from Home Depot. The bumper has a 12 inch tare on one side paint scrapes and a detached bumper tabs I can’t seem to get back in on the other side. I bought the HONDA extended Warrantee from the Honda dealer I followed the guidelines; I have been into Honda for every service and maintenance…..I have the recommended snow chains. (They better cover this.) Well see after the (happy) Holidays. Recommended PAX Tire Snow Chains; Alpine Premier, 1555/7021-555-07, barcode 5121701555 The drive to the Summit was around 35 mph plus two hours of sitting in traffic at 2 mph because of Highway Patrol telling you had to have chains on.

Hi, I too am experincing extreme frustration with my PAx tires on my honda touring. At 27k I was told i would need all 4 tires changed soon. I filed a complaint with Michelin. They are willing to give me a 50% deduction on the tires but we stillhave to pay the labor. My biggest problem is that I do not and will not buy tires every year for $1300. We have looked at replacing the wheeles and all but Honda said that this would take us out of our warranty and that we would always have a chekc engine light on so that if we every decided to sale it would be a bummer, plus what if something was really wrong with the engine and we didn't know and kept driving until we cracked a head or something. So my question is when you replace your wheeles and sensors, did the check engine light remain on? Thanks Highm8ntce in Alabama

Just curious how the new wheeles/tires are working out. I too am having major pax tire issues. My honda dealer/service rep stated that if I did change out the wheeles we would always have the check engine light on which is not good with 4 little ones. Any info would be great. Thanks highm8ntce

Hey, as long as you put the sensors (honda) on the new wheels the check engine light will not go on!! Just reuse the original sensors that measure the pressure and you are good to go.

We have the PAX tires on our '07 Touring with the same problem. At about 17,000 miles there was a slow leak. We had to drive two hours to the nearest dealership while stopping every 20 minutes to pump more air into the tires (since you're only supposed to drive 100 miles on the in run-flat mode). It took the dealership over 3 hours to get the tire back on and it cost $250(that they gave us free install???). Now we have another flat, another 2 hour drive to get there with 4 kids, and another $250 wasted when a regular tire could be repaired for $10. We're very frustrated, and we were told by the dealership that we could only place PAX tires on our vehicle. Please let me know what I Should do? I thought I would be the only one that has bad luck with this car ( since all my previous Honda never had any problem.) My email is drdrew@dam.net, please give me some ideas what I should do because I would not want to make this comming trip to dearlership and obligate with whatever they said because we had noway out :-(

Update on the bumper skin falling off with the engine splash guard due to the chains. I found that if you bump into say a rock at even less than 5 mph you can damage the plastic hold downs at the rear of the engine. The combination of the bump, vibration of the chains, snow, and backing up in the snow are what caused my whole front end of the car to fall off. The dropping splash guard shoveled the snow up and tore the drivers side skin back 12 inches or so putting the whole front skin out in front of the car by the splash guard falling off the car in a area you do not normally look unless you are a mechanic working under the car. All caused by a rock that I bumped into one day at soccer in the fall. This led up to the whole skin falling off in December at the ski resort. To add to that the original damage the new vehicle came with from the dealer where you could clearly see bondo on the bumper and the start of a tear, the Dealer refused to recognize this last year. I was told this being a body problem not covered under Honda’s warrantee; supposedly it’s the original dealer problem or the body shop they sent it too for new vehicle delivery. I complained of the misaligned front bumper that stuck out at the corners. So now I’m stuck with 600 dollars or more of bumper skin to replace. The extra 1500 dollars up front for extended warrantees on Honda’s do nothing for you; it only increases your distain and displeasure. The black engine splash guard engineering was not well thought out. Why wouldn’t you connect it to a permanent fixture not something that does the domino effect when stressed upon, I thought by law vehicles were supposed to be able to handle a 5-10 mph or less bump, like for parking, “don’t try this at home kids”.

I too have an 05 Honda Odyssey Touring model. I replaced my pax wheels today!! I went to e-bay and searched for pax replacement wheels. Acurahondaoem has many sets of wheels/tires for sale with the sensors already installed. They tires/wheels shipped to me ready to install on my van. I took it to my local Honda dealer and $13.00 later they were installed on my van. Everything works great!! I paid $1299 for the wheels/tires shipped.
Here is the information from ebay seller acurahondaoem:
17" OEM WHEEL RIM PAX REPLACEMENT FOR 05-07 ODYSSEY MOUNTED W/ BRAND NEW HIGH RATING KUMHO KH16 235/60/17
I have here is a set of OEM takeoff Acura Honda 17" rims mounted/balanced with brand new with tags high rating Kumho KH16 235/60/17 tires, Traction A, Temperature A, Tread wear 440. Rims are used, takeoff, in good condition with no curb rashes. Honda center caps are for display only, not included but you can re-used your center caps from the PAX wheels, they are perfect fit.
This set is especially custom for 05-07 Odyssey Touring with PAX system, because installed in this set is a set of 4 matching TPMS sensors for the touring Odyssey.
This set is READY to bolt on your 05-07 Odyssey Touring to replace the PAX tires.
This is a great upgrade to 17" OEM Honda/Acura wheels and Brand name tires and good buy to replace those costly/heavy run flat tires from your 05-07 touring Odyssey. With this new set of wheels they will give your lovely van much better handling, ride quality and great look, easier to clean comparing to the PAX's wheels and still give the quality of OEM products.

After reading your post I found some OEM 17" Honda rims available from Finishlinewheels on line for a 2005 Odyssey. I think the 05-07 all were the same so I was thinking about ordering the rims and purchase tires localy and have them put on my 06 Odyssey. Once you changed is the speedometer still accurate? When I checked with Discounttire about rims they suggested 16" so I'm not sure what size the Odyseey needs. I might check out the 08 and see what size it has on the Non Pax vehical and go that route.
As poor as the Pax system is I would think every tire and wheel shop around would be advertising packages to replace tires and rims.

Hey JKramer8
Is the ride any better/worse? Any problem with the navigation working correctly? Does the dash info still display the tire pressure of each wheel? And lastly, what are you gonna do with your old PAX Wheels/Tires??!! I saw this auction and thought I could do better buying the wheels through individual auctions, but just bid on and won a set of 4 pax wheels/tires with 12000 miles for $214, so looks like I'll be running pax for a while.

I read the information regarding the class action law suit filed in California against Honda & Michelin did I read correctly that the lawsuit was dismissed? What do those of us with this awful costly tire systems do now? And are we reducing the safety advantage that lead us to buy this vehicle by putting unauthorized non-pax tires on our car. Will this null and void our warranty? Bought one of the first 2005 Odysseys in Dec. 04.

Do you still have the PAX wheels and tires for sale? If so I will buy them. Cheaper than paying for new tires. My wife likes them, we have gotten 54K on ours just due to raising the tire pressure above 36.

I also just bought some Acura MDX 07-08 wheels to put on my 05 Odyssey Touring, but the lug nuts won't work on the new wheels. Will the lug nuts for the MDX work? I have ordered some, but not sure what to expect. Dealer was no help. Thanks, Bruce
