Okay, I've had my Mazda 626 for about 1.5 years now and although it has had other problems, mostly due to rust (fuel filler pipe replaced, reciever dier replaced, power steering fluid cooler replaced, etc), but it's always started right up fine, no problems at all no matter how cold how warm anything. Now, starting about 1 week ago, it left me stranded at a convenience store halfway between work and my house, so I ended up being late by a couple hours, and my friend helped me troubleshoot the problem- we put new spark plugs, wires, distibutor cap and rotor, ignition coil, battery cables, and fuel filter. Still wouldn't start, so we sprayed some starting fluid into the intake manifold and eventually were able to start it....then it started up fine right away for a week- now it won't start, yet again. We have spark, fuel, and compression. I messed with the distributor a little, but ended up putting it back where it started, and this it the place where it ran for a week, so the timing ought to be fine. I can't figure it out and it's making me sick to my stomach because I'm constantly worried about it, I can't get another car and it would only make sense to fix this one since I've already put an arm and leg into it. It was a great car until this little problem, it may be something simple that I'm overlooking and before I take it to the dealer to have them troubleshoot it I thought I'd go the cheaper route and see what everyone thought. Let me know, thanks Quincy.

Okay, the starter was turning real slow then stops turning completely, so I put in a new one. I cleaned the throttle body and added octane boost to clean fuel injectors. I still was having start problems, mostly during cold/foggy weather. So, I took it to an old neighbor mechanic, he found that my idle was too high and found that a small screw valve was the culprit, either I hit the screw or turned it by accident when cleaning the throttle body or my friend messed with it. Anyway I was running at about 1500 RPM when I was supposed to be at 750 RPM, now I have less air and more fuel to start, my engine is quieter when idling and I should be getting better gas/milage too, all due to one VERY small screw. This was this afternoon I took it to him, I will give it the start test when I leave for work at 10:00PM tonight (3rd shift) and then again after working for about 10 hours to come home, cash paycheck, and so on. I hope this does the trick. I'm still looking for possible suggestions though. Thank you. Quincy
