good day gentleman , i have a problem . ive been in the bussiness for over 20 yrs. ive worked on my share of jeep vehicles over the years . but this defies all logic. or maybe im getting old . heres the story. a customer brings me this 91 jeep wrangler , says 5 other mechs have looked at intensely and have given back the truck with their hands up in surrender. the damn thing runs fine at idle as you start to accelerate immed. it starts to sputter and spit . it starts to ping and will not grab rpm. its almost un drivable . i limped this thing all the way from thousand oaks to my shop in west hills. ive had this truck for over a month. at first inspection i immed thought computer. as you know a computer for this thing is quite pricey. $650 from the dealer. so i start to isolate the problem before jumping into the computer thing . i have replaced every component on the motor . i mean the crank sensor new oem dist new temp sensor new map sensor . new cap & rotor. new plugs and wires. new pressure reg new fuel pump new coil every single poss. problem has been eliminated . so now im left with the computer . i buy a computer install it and . the timing is fixed so thats out all vacuum readings are within spec the compression is in line . this mother *** is still no better than the day i started. now you tell me ,, what in the hell am i forgeting here. ive talked to the factory ....mopar. chyrsler...... and numerous shops friends and there friends. what the hell is the problem.?? the most discouraging part of this whole ordeal is no two people can agree on anything concerning this vehicle. i know more about this one year of jeep than most experts ive talked with. please any input will keep me from hanging myself in the name of automotive techs around the world,,,don

I am gonna feel a little stupid as it sounds like you are much more qualified then me to work on these things than I put I recently was haveing a problem with my car missing and sputtering, (theres a short thread about it somewhere in the forums) It turned out to be that my ecu wireing harness ground was covered with grease and dirt all over the contact areas. So I disconnected and cleaned off the surfaces and havent had the problem yet. As I am doubtful that this is your problem, but since almost all other options seem to have been exhasuted, it wouldnt hurt to check out.

Oh yeah, duh. Thanks JohnSwiftm, they didn’t even cross my mind. I just instantly thought of the first thing that happened to me and went back to work without giving any more analytical thought.
Thanks man. Its good to have you here.
