I have a prob with my cj7, i tried to start it, i pushed the key too far and now the key freely spins without contacting anything, the enging doesnt start. Im not sure maybe the ignition switch has to be replaced, or maybe the internal parts in the steering column is busted.

the steering column in the jeep is just like the old GM columns...one of two things happened, either you broke the lock cyl itself of the column rack broke...either way unless you have the tools to dissasemble the column dont attempt it...they come apart easy...but going back together without the spring compressor and snap ring slides you are out of luck
