Heh folks;
i am looking for some help. I am trying to find a unit that will allow me to navigate down the Gulf Coast from Brownsville Texas to VeraCruz Mexico and then back up thru central Mexico via Puebla, Mexico City and back to Texas.
Does anyone know of a unit that is capable of this ????

Ok that didn't get any response, how about this ?
Does anyone own a Lowrance IWAY 350c ?
if so, could you possibly see if you can zoom in on Veracruz Mexico and see if you can see the highway between Jose Modelo to the north and the highway to Alvarado to the South, both of these are on the Gulf of mexico about 3/4 of the way down to the Yucatan.
Thanks again for ANY help here.

I'm researching the same thing right now. I run a tourism website for the Gulf coast and need to bring my navigation data into the 21st century. The only really detailed GPS maps I'm finding come with the Garmin GPS Atlas of Mexico and it's not cheap:$190.00usd for one user and another $53.00 for each additional license.  On top of that, it's a Garmin, and yours doesn't seem to be. If I get down to Mexico before I make my purchase, I'll slide into Sanborn's and see what they have to say.

We have a Garmin Nuvi 250 Mexico, which has maps of Mexico and nothing else. We just drove from McAllen to Veracruz and it worked fairly well, except for Tampico. Tampico was horrible; lots of screw ups, instructions to turn into one way streets, roads that were swamps, one that just stopped at the security gate of the dock. But the little darling eventually found the bridge and we escaped.

Several times the unit was puzzled when the Mexicans just built a mile or two of new road right next to the old road; the unit thought we were driving through a field.

Poza Rico worked fine, but was a strange route. They seem to favor ring roads, and as you may know, in Mexico ring roads are often not the best choice for going through a city. Veracruz worked fine too; an odd but decent route to our house.

It is important to note that the 250 Mexico does NOT contain U.S. maps. You have to buy that extra if you wish.

Hmmmm I wonder why the Garmin 250 had so much trouble in Tampico. I don't know much about the Garmin's made for mexico, but even the US Garmin GPS's definitely have similar issues sometimes. I don't know if they are quite as bad as that though. But some examples would be when they tell you to do a U-Turn in a place that it would not even be possible in, and so on. Also, crossing rivers/lakes on a ferry really messes with the garmin GPS's as well; it usually tries to get you to drive off of the ferry and drive through the water to make a turn
