Does anyone have experience with replacement/aftermarket headlights for a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee?Original replacements are close to $400. for ONE headlight, then with installation almost $1000. (Dealership install)The plastic covers on mine are so messed up, on the inside, it cuts down on the light getting through too much. So far, every mechanic I've talked to says I need to change the whole headlight.Aftermarket headlights on PartsTrain.com are about $80. ea. but look like they don't have the plastic (or any) cover.Reply ASAP before winter, snow and fog get here please.Thanks!
I just this minute finished replacing both headlights on my 99 GC Laredo. Same problems you had - old and totally worn surfaces blocking light. I found that I could get a set of two headlight housings online for 129.95 at www.1aauto.com. It's a complete replacement when you use a few bulbs from your old set. It said they would not come with any lights, only the housing, but it came with the high and low beam in it. Not the side markers or parking lights though. Replacing took about an hour total. Experienced people would take less time but I was afraid to crank on these too hard. You may have to remove the grill but nothing else. There's only one screw at the top of each headlight, then they they pop out, but not easy. I used a crowbar. I had a problem with one bulb going in. They cut the hole wrong for the fitting so I cut it out a little more with a dremel tool and it worked.
