'85 Nissan 300ZX non-turbo with 106,000 miles. When I start the car it will idle perfectly for about 1 minute. At that point the engine will start to idle very roughly with the rpm's dropping to almost 0 then back up to idle speed and so on. There is also some vibration with the car during this probably from the rough idle. During this period of rough idle, if I try to give it some gas the engine will stall. If I let the engine run it will continue the rough idle for about 1-2 minutes then start sputtering (like it is running out of fuel) then all of the dash lights come on and the engine dies. The check engine light never comes on until the engine cuts off. All of the belts including the timing belt are new. Also the plugs are new. Any suggestions? Please help. Low on money to have the car checked out. Thanks.

Check for vaccume leaks, also be sure to make sure the iac motor is not stuck out or has a loose spot. Get a Vaccume gauge and monitor the engine vaccume while this is occurning repost what the vaccume gauge reads...MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO VACCUME LEAKS. Also make sure that your O2 sensors,map sensor, coolant temp sensors are all functioning normallay....also might try a fuel system clean (not the junk you buy at the auto parts store...have a shop perform a system such as BG,3M, or Motovac.

Found the problem. It was a vacuum line. I found the vacuum line dry-rotted under the throttle body. Replaced it and the car runs great. Thanks nick.

Hi, Im Josh I have an 86 and its doin pretty much the same things.. Ive replaced all the electrical and Im clueless.. My problem is completely intermitant is will run rough for a lil bit and then run prefect for a while??? Where was this vaccum hose at what by chance was it conected to??? I am hopin that may be the problem with mine! It would be appreciated thanks Josh A
