Ok, gonna try this as I have come about to the end of my rope with an otherwise good car I have thousands in new parts in (including brakes, clutch, master and slave cylinders, radiator, water pump and timing chain, and AC). Someone online suggested it may be the control module (though unsure what exact module they meant), but perhaps I should back up. My '91 Ford Probe has always been a very good car but after storing it for about 9 months developed some curious problems. I know, I know, varnish, but perhaps I should tell you what I HAVE replaced and what it is doing. First the doing, (and it's curious shift in behavior), and then I'll get to what else I have replaced or checked that I don't get to mention. I sure hope someone can help cause it is otherwise an excellent car which I would like to keep (but is driving me crazy!) At first when I took it out of storage and put new gas in it seemed fine, but then, after stranding me on the side of a highway 700 miles later was forced to replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, and ignition coil, (and at dealer prices, geesh!!) Shortly after it seemed to cut out on corners, especially out of turns off freeway ramps, (and usually only to the right). However, it would ONLY do this when it was below half a tank of gas, (usually about a third tank); almost like someone just flicked a kill switch for just a second and then it would come right back, (remember this is after the fuel pump and fuel filter were replaced). I thought perhaps the fuel pump had been defective or installed incorrectly, but re-installing it and doing a fuel pressure test yielded 39 pounds running and 33 off, (right about where I think it should be, please feel free to correct me on this). Of late the problem seems to have shifted/worsened to a SERIOUS runnability problem regardless of the amount of gas in the tank, (and especially noticeable at lower RPM's); it's just running like crap generally like it's misfiring, has a inconsistent gas supply, or even some short somewhere, (though I can't see where and can't help but think it has something to do with the fuel system after it's lengthy garage time, I should be on a commercial for gas stabilizer!) I have replaced or checked all the obvious things; ignition module, plug wires and plugs, fuel filter and pump, and ran OODLES of fuel injector cleaner through, (including a professional fuel injector cleaning service which did nothing to improve the situation). My thinking now is either fuel pressure regulator, injectors, or the computer "brain" itself, but I am tiring of the fight and don't want to spend any more if it won't fix the problem. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP *** Also, if it's injectors can they be cleaned and is there any way to check this before tearing the fuel rail, etc. all apart? Seems the car is too old to work on many diagnostic machines and since there is no code showing not much any service techs seem able to do. Much thanks to any mechanical geniuses out there who can solve this one!
