Absolutely not. And with all due respect to Bob Lutz, I think he knows he is prohibitively ambitious to decree that Pontiac, the company borrowing a Holden Monaro to sell a "brand new" GTO, is to be the "American BMW." It seems as though this is just another GM marketing ploy to sell the Pontiac brand to the consumer. If any GM car company were to compete with BMW it would be Cadillac, which is making great strides to save its previously floundering respectability. Pontiac is simply not a priority for GM, in design, performance, and craftsmanship, as Cadillac and Chevrolet are. And as of today, the image at Pontiac is not one that exudes desirability but one that says "take me I'm cheap and desperate." And with all of GM's problems, I don't see this image changing for a long time.
