Hey everyone, I am new here and thought I would try and see if someone could help me with a problem I am having. I just bought an '04 Grand Cherokee (4.0) and really love it (so long as repairs each month don't start costing as much as my car payment). At any rate, I noticed that when I stop my car "bumps," sometimes as I am coming to a complete stop but mostly as soon as I let go of the brake or shortly thereafter. Sometimes it doesn't do it (if stops are longer and more gradual), sometimes it can be felt faintly and sometimes it is very noticeable (sudden stops). I spoke to one dealership and they said that all Jeeps do it and it is normal and I spoke to another dealership that wants me to bring it in for a checkup so they can milk me for another $100 by running a stupid diagnostic. I find it hard to believe that this is "normal" for Jeeps and was wondering if anyone has had or knows someone who has had something similar happen and how the problem was fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ZRex1102

Stop at one of the muffler shops and have them check underneath to make sure your complete muffler system is tight. Sounds just that something underneath is loose and is shifting under brakeing excelleration and de-excelleration motion.there should be no charge unless you find something you need fixing from their inspection.
Also check your condition of shocks or general shock items. With car parked' push up and down on all vehicle corners front and rear to see if you can reproduce bump sound. Also do you have something shifting around thats in your trunk? Hope this helps . Let us know what you find.

Just got off of the phone with my dealer who gave me the same story for my '05 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7. He stated that all of the V-8's (the 4.7 and 5.7 hemi) have the same problem when matched with this particular transmission. In my case it also results in rough shifting, especially downshifting - the sucker bogs down unless I give it some gas.
Anyone got any ideas?
