Hey ..im new..this will be my first Audi and Im planning to buy eaither an A4 or S4 but im having trouble deciding ..just wondering what everyones thoughts are on both these models, and if there is a preference over one or the other.  

i think anyone here will say that the S4 is just a much more powerful car in terms of horsepower and handling...if u want to go fast...get the S4....if u dont care about speed or handling...save the your money and get the A4  

and of course there are people like me who will say get the RS4!

but i guess if i was in the market for an audi, i would get the A4 since i prefer a turbo charger, (cant help it) and it will cost me less money.  

Are we talking about brand new or used, if used what year?

Do you plan on modifying the car, if you buy the A4 you can do a lot to it with the price difference. If you plan on modifying the car, the suspension differences between the two is negligible. You can easily make the A4 handle better than a stock S4 and both modified the same the A4 will handle better because of the better weight distribution and less weight.

It is possible to get the same amount of power out of the 2.0T as the factory gets out of the V8. It is really expensive to get any real gain out of the V8. If we are talking about used S4s, specificaly the B5, you can pull tons of power out of them. 500hp is easy, streetable and actually more reliable than the car was from the factory. The B5 is probably the only version were I would buy the S4 over the A4. Otherwise I think I would rather have a turbo 4 with lots of mods.  

my friends cousin who lived with him had a brand new AUdi S4, and man, even though that thing was fast, it was also heavy as hell.  We went on a little mountain cruise with it, and all i can say is that its realllll heavy...To add, i also once saw this video of a modified A4, and it wiped the floor with a M3...all you have to do is a turbo upgrade and some other things and you have your self a car thats faster than the monsterous V8

i believe the weight of the S4 is really close to 4,000 pounds (probably because of the V8)...but on the other hand, the A4 weight is 3,400...so if you want to modify...id have to agree with the rest of these guys and go with a A4....if you dont care to mod ur car...then just buy the S4 and your already have yourself a fast car.  

If you are looking between years 2000 and 2002 get the S4. It's twin-turbo and with a simple chip you can get upwards of 400hp not to mention the hp potential if you really want to start modding it.
